I agree with the suggestion to start a Facebook page for his business.
Also, get & read "Guerrilla Marketing" by Jay Conrad Levinson (a marketing bible for beginners). There's also a website that might be helpful.
Hi ladies,
I am not too computer saavy. I need some ideas with try to advertise online. I want to create an online website where I post pictures of his work and be able to show potential customers what he can do. I also was thinking about creating a flyer to start distributing around our neighborhood. If you have any ideas on how to create online websites and flyers please share them with me.
He does tile in kitchens, floors, bathroom remodels etc. Thank you!

Have him encourage past customers to post reviews to Angie's List and Service m
Magic (if they are in your area). Also send an introductory letter to local building/remodeling contractors/companies letting them know that he would like to become one of their subcontractors. Most of them probably have a person they recommend for tiling but that doesn't mean they don't need backup or mean that they are happy with that person.
Our business also uses godaddy for web hosting. My husband knows how to make a website but initially we paid someone to do a basic setup, then my husband took over.
Make sure you know who your audience will be. If your DH is looking for small jobs, then advertise to home owners in your community. But if he wants to have more steady work and/or bigger jobs, he should focus on getting his name out to contractors and architects.
Our small business does very little in the way of color flyers because they are more expensive to print. If we do a mailing we make sure it is carefully targeted to people who are most likely to be looking for a business like ours rather than waste our money blanketing the city. Make sure you know your audience, then ask every new customer how they found out about you so you can figure out what works and what advertising is a waste of money.
My husband and I use godaddy for our businesses and love them! The prices are great, you usually get free advertising credits for facebook, bing/yahoo, fotolia, and google, and the customer service is by far the best we have ever dealt with! If you go through my page and click on one of their ads, you should be able to get a further discount (inbox me for my website if interested). You can get a .com, 5 pages, an email address, hosting/web page designer package, and SEO for under $200! I can even help you design your pages if you want. Their site is very easy to navigate and they have tons of tutorial videos! I make scrapbooks, etc for people and businesses. Usually the businesses that I make them for want before and after pictures of their work included in the book to show to potential customers (this is an idea if you are trying to think outside of the box)! Word of mouth is definitely the best form of advertising! So get his business out there in as many places as you can! My dad has his own business as well and the google advertising worked very well for him, he had a significant increase in call and work volume! Hope this helps! Inbox me if you have any questions for me! Good luck to you and your husband!
He can simply start out with a facebook business page. Also, freewebs, wix, godaddy, blogger and a few others are easy places to build simple websites. He can get cheap business cards and even postcards he can use as flyers at vistaprints.com
You can download free flyer templates and the like online, especially if you have Microsoft office. If not, you can likely go to the library and someone can help you all make one there.
He can also advertise on craigslist.
Good luck in your venture!
Start a Facebook page first. After that you are on a mission to get people to "like" your site. You can do this by offering a discount on your flyers if people like your site or even having a contest. Something on the lines of 'tell us why you need a new floor and you could win a free room tiled'. When people answer your contest question their reply will show to all of their FB friends and you will get additional traffic from that.
i have seen a commercial for an easy website making thing, i cant remember what its called! im sure if you googled it something would pop up! also do you have a fb? if you do you should look for groups like in my town we have a group called "for sale in borger" where people advertise their buisness free or sell things! my hubby has been mowing yards and stuff and that has gotten us probably 95% of our buisness!
Hi! I recommend that you check out www.boutiquemama.com . That is where I bought my template. My website is www.alanaliliedesigns.com
I use papashop.com for my web hosting and "Boutique M." loaded the template on my web hosting site for me for free (actually is in the price when I bought the template...which was VERY reasonably priced!) They help you set up everything and walk you through the steps to develop your website. They have different templates to choose from and you can also make your own design for a little more $ if you don't see a pre-made template you like or that would work for the tile business. Both these companies are very helpful and I highly recommend that you use them! You can build your own website and be able to change it up when you want at no additional cost! That is a HUGE plus! Before I made this website I was relying on the "web designer" to make changes for a bunch of money. I am constantly adding new items to sell and I was going broke paying someone to update my site for me....good luck!!

vistaprint.com - they do cards, websites, car magnets, etc.
Also, check out meetup.com and look for construction related business networking groups in your area. Referrals are the best source for business.
