Hello to all of you mommies!

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas of where to go in Missouri or Illinois (I live in the St. Louis Area) for a romantic weekend. It will be my 3 year anniversary in october and my husband and I want to do something special.. (our first year my son was about to be born and the 2nd year we spent it as a family).. I just cant think of anything thats not too expensive. I was thinking maybe a bed and breakfast. Any ideas or where have any of you have gone that was nice, relaxing and not horribly expensive? Any idea would be great thanks in advance! :)

You did not say exactly where you lived but in Illinois I would suggest Southern Illinois. Especially Giant City Logde (in Makanda). There are a ton of cabins nestled in the Giant City State park. The food at the lodge is awesome and the hiking is fabulous. You are also literally minutes from the Wine Trail. I think there are 16 local vineyards. Alto Vineyards and Blue Sky are my faves.
Fell free to ask me any more questions about Southern Illinois, I've lived here for over 30 years! I love it.

Hi S., For Mothers Day my husband took me to The Champaign Lodge in IL. Oh my gosh it was so romantic. They have huge jacuzzi tubs, a shower with a steam room, fireplace, everything you need for a romantic getaway. Make sure to take candles with you. We sat in the jacuzzi and had candles all around it and we drank wine while enjoying it. Just go to their website: www.thechampagnlodge.com. They are a little expensive but it is well worth it. It was one the best Mothers Days I've spent in a long time.
YOu could also look up on the internet, there are hotels or motels with romantic themed rooms. Like: THe Jungle Room, Arabian theme, The Kings Room, the Water Room, Roman theme Room, all kinds of themes and they have jacuzzi tubs too. That was a fun evening too. Hope this helps, have fun, Sharon

Eureka Springs, AR has some inexpensive places and some "quaint" shops to wander through. The Passion Play is very good. I've heard of some cabins in the woods, but I have no idea how expensive (or inexpensive) they are.
If your looking for in town, my husband and I like to get away to the Embassy Suites (call different in town locations, they are priced differently). They have a managers reception each night for 2 hours (free drinks for 2 hours, sometimes snacks, call for the time), we like the pool and hot tub. The rooms have a sitting room with a pull out couch, small fridge area and a separate bedroom with a door and it's own TV, so if you have to bring the kids you still have your privacy! We sometimes stockpile a few drinks in the room for later and bring our own munchies. The next morning they have a free breakfast buffet.
Sometimes a mini get away in town is what you need, we used to do this a lot, makes me want to go again this weekend!

Arrow Rock & Rocheport Missouri are both great towns for a weekend away. Both have B&Bs, antique shops, the Katy trail, restaurants & live theater. The Le Bougious (sp?) winery/restaurant is in the next town over. Great food & view.

Also, if you go to Branson, forget the high priced Big Cedar. Stay at the adjacent Red Bud B&B. The guy at Big Cedar recommended it to me as he was having his family stay there. He was right. Much cheaper, fabulous room w/fireplace (we were there in Feb.), full kitchen, LR, whirpool for 2, and of course, a great breakfast on a small lake.

My husband and I went to stay at the Chateau on the Lake in Branson last year. The resort is very nice and they have a spa so we treated ourselves to a couples massage.Another idea is to try Eureka Springs, AR. They have numerous bed-n-breakfasts and cabins. It's a quaint little town that is a popular destination for honeymooners and those celebrating an anniversary. Good luck!

If you go to Lake of the Ozarks and are looking for a bed-n-breakfast, try The Garden House. (www.thegardenhouse.com) I used to work with one of the owners and she's fabulous! :) Will make any stranger feel welcome.

Or - you can go to Eureka Springs Arkansas... I know, you may be thinking - Arkansas?!? :) But Eureka Springs is awesome! It's about a 5 hour drive from STL (good road trip time w/ the hubby) and there are festivals going on there nearly every weekend in the summer. It's a quiet, diverse community that seems to welcome any 'type' of person. We went there two times around Memorial Day weekend a few years ago and loved their Blues festival. There are lots of art shops, massage places and great restaurants (give Ermillio's a try).

Hope you find something fun - and happy anniversary! :)

Wow you got some great suggestions. I would suggest Branson too. For a wonderful stay, might I suggest a 4d/3night stay for $99 at a 5-star Westgate resort? Of all the resorts, I think theirs is one of the best (we have stayed in several) This place is awesome; luxurious, and close to all the attractions. Westgate has 2 in that area. One in Branson, in the wooded hills(my favorite) and one that overlooks Tablerock lake, with a marina and boat rentals right on the property. To get this special, call 1-800-375-7828 and give them promo code ####-###-#### to get the discount. You may want to upgrade to the 1 bedroom unit, it isn't much more and well worth it. The normal getaways to a place this upscale normally cost over $1100/wk. and are only available to timeshare holders. Like the lady said, you have to sit thru their 90 minute salespitch, but soooo worth it!! They have a conscierge desk that gets you discounts on any attraction you want. Otherwise some of the Bed and Breakfasts are nice. Just do your research on the place to make sure it offers the amenities you want, and is a location that offers other things to do. Enjoy!

I know you said missouri or illinois, but when my fiance proposed to me we had a great time in kansas. we stayed at the chateau avalon. They have realy neat rooms that are themed, all the rooms have a jacuzi. They have a spa on property and the grounds are so beautiful. It's by the kansas speedway and legends so there are plenty of things to do in that area, or you could just stay in your room and relax and enjoy each other. I think it might be on the pricey side but if you go to priceline or hotels.com I think you can get a pretty good deal. I hope this helps.

You can check out there website, www.bassandbaskets.com It's pretty reasonible and I think two of the rooms have a jacuzzi hot tub for 2. We have been going there for 5 years now.

I am not sure where you live but Branson, MO is just great. We already have a room booked for 3 days and 2 nights in August. You can always find good deals especially if you sit through a time share session. It lasts about an hour and they will try to make you buy a time share but just tell them that you want your free shows and they will leave you alone. We got free tickets to the Dixie Stampede, I think that was a $90 value. There is soooo much to do down there, even if you just go to the Wax Museum or a Magic Show.

Went there for our 10th Anniversary and didn't want to leave. Also, in Missouri there is a town called Herrman that is famous for its wineries. You can tour the wineries and sample the wines and it has several romantic bed and breakfasts. It's a beatiful little historic town with lots of awesome shops.

Good morning, a bed in breakfast would be a gret idea. also i recently found out there is a resort in Desoto , MO and from my understanding it is really nice . However, if you just want a good time you can get a nice hotel room, buy a bottle of champaigne, chocolate covered streawberrires, a deck of card(strip poker) a fruit tray and cheese tray, a cd player with romantic music and turn off your cell phones. You dont have to go far to have fun just seperate yourself. My husband and I did this at the Hyatt Regency hotel 2 years ago and we had an awesometime

Hi S.,

My husband and I found this fabulous bed & breakfast and spent our first anniversary there. It is call the Innon Crescent Lake and is up in Excelsior Springs. http://www.crescentlake.com/index.html

We had toured the Elms Resort, but this B&B far exceeds the romantic factor. The house sits on some land with a small lake, and you can take paddle boats out or take a long walk around the lake. It is so BEAUTIFUL there. We stayed in the Ballroom, and I highly recommend it. It is not a far drive either.

Enjoy!

Speaking of Branson, we have reservations in August to go to Big Cedar Lodge (20 minutes? from Branson). We're going with a large family group but I've heard others say it's great without kids! I've also heard that you'd never know it's in Missouri. Worth checking into: bigcedar.com. They have lots of different accomodations - rooms, cabins, suites, etc. Have a great time! Also, ever been to Pere Marquette Lodge? I don't know much about it but it's in Illinois, not to far from St. Louis.

Hi! I'm Y. and I live in Southern Illinois. My husband and I like to go to the Adams Mark hotel. Adams Mark has romance packages that are pretty well priced what all you get. Get on line and check it out. We walk to the "Ole Spaghetti Factory" on the landing. Its a very romantic walk and restaurant. then we have taken a horse drawn carriage ride (they pick up outside the restaurant) Its very nice! They have muic in the lounge at Adams Mark and a band or DJ at AJ's. Its very beautiful there! We have 7 yr old twins and a 10 yr old too so we need a relaxing getaway! Sometimes if we arent in the mood for peace and quiet we will go to the Big Bang on the Landing. Its a dueling piano bar and is a big sing along and its sooo much fun! Also the Casino queen runs great specials for romance pkgs too. We have done that also.
Hope this helps!

There is a nice bed & breakfast in Paola, KS. I don't remember the name of it but we got a gift certificate from our family to have a getaway. Branson has a lot of neat stuff to do and if you like cabins on the lake there are several there to rent. It just depends on what you like to do. If you like to shop or browse around the mall you could stay in the Hyatt in KC and walk around crown center or go and walk around the plaza. If you like camping or being on the lake you could rent cabins at a lake just about anywhere. There are several towns with Bed & Breakfasts.

Precious Moments is a cool place to go and the hotel there is very reasonable and not sure if they still give you 2 free tickets to the fountain show for staying there but they did when we stayed there 3 years ago. You can go to Precious Moments and it's free. The fountain show is awesome and think the tickets were 10.00 if you have to buy them but they may be free with your hotel stay.

I'm not sure where you live, but, St. Charles is where my husband and I spent our's a couple of weeks ago. The Embassy Suites offers a manger's receiption from 5:30-7 p.m. with absolutly free drinks (alcholoic and non) along with some munchies. In the morning they have a great breakfast buffett with made to order omelets and waffles. All free. They have a shuttle that runs until midnight which will take you anywhere in a 3 mile radius. We had dinner at Charlie Geto's inside of Harrah's. Very elegant but there are pletny of other great resturnats as well. Trailhead off of Main Street in St. Charles is a more laid back place with great food. Just taking a stroll down Main Street is great as well. There is a wine shop and resturant called Little Hills Winery. A very good sparkling wine called Verdi, you will find there. Anyhow, just thought I would give that suggestion to you. It's close to us and with the price of gas, you just can't pass a place like that up. Good luck and Happy Anniversary!

There is a stereo system, tv, vcr/dvd player, 2 person shower.

Not sure how long you are looking to getaway. There's not much else to do in the town. We had dinner at a nearby historic downtown area that was really cute and cozy.

We've gone back every year since! I will send you the website. It's worth checking out! I dont' think you will be disappointed at all!! Very romantic, and cozy! No TV, phones or clocks! Just you and your hubby! Check it out and let me know what you think! It's worth every minute there! Myrta and Richard are wonderful and you are treated like royality when your there! We prefer to go when it's cold. But word of warning....avoid October if your looking for a peaceful get away. I mean the B and B is still very peaceful, but town is a mess with all the octoberfest people there. Well, here it is!!
