I recently am now staying at home iwth my 14 month old. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for Free/low price acitivities for my son and I. I live in the McKinney area.

Also, can anyone make any suggestions on activities to do at home with him. He has tons of toys, we rotate them -- but I still think he gets bored sometimes -- or maybe thats me who gets bored with the toys?

I have thought about joining a MOPS group -- but honestly the times availalbe interfer with his nap time -- still on 2 naps.

Anyone with suggestions for books to look at for activtites or websites would also be apprecited.

Thanks,
C.

You Are Your Child's First Teacher by Rahima Baldwin Dancy is an excellent book (subtitled "What Parents Can Do With and For Their Children from Birth to Age Six"). It's available from Amazon. I have found it to be tremendously helpful reading in understanding how important these first years are, and how we are our children's first teachers. Highly recommended!

Hi C.,
I stay home with my 1 year old and 2 year old boys so I am constantly looking for free activities. We like to go to the Frisco Commons Park, play in the play area at the mall and feed the ducks across from the Plantation Golf driving range. I also LOVE storytime at Peter Piper Pizza on Coit and Spring Creek. Queen Octavia reads on Monday and Thursday at 10:45. I also like taking them to any library storytime and the storytime at Barnes & Noble. THey have a craft afterwards that my oldest loves. I belong to a playgroup through my sunday school at church. That is also great because I get enteraction with other Mom's going through the same issues! I hope this helps! There are other things that cost a bit of money so I can give you those two if you'd like.

I actually love taking my son to storytime at the public library. They have different times for different age groups: one for newborn to 23 mo.; one for 2 yr olds and one for 3-5 yr olds. The Plano Public Library has a great program!

I'm sure McKinney Library has great storytime as well. I think the bookstores (Barnes&Noble, Borders) also offer children's storytimes. And Pottery Barn at Stonebriar has these as well...every Tues. 10-10:30 a.m. -- but I've never been to their storytime.
Waterbabies swim classes are fun also! The city recreation dept. offers these at a reasonable price -- not sure about McKinney but I know City of Allen and City of Plano offers these classes....

Hi C.-

I have a 15 month old boy and I am 3 months pregnant as well and live in McKinney. I have a hard time finding playgroups or other moms with kids the same age. My son is still on 2 naps so it would be nice to find someone to have a playdate with. Let me know if you are interested.

Thanks,
A.

I remember being a SAHM with a toddler and one on the way. The one thing that saved me was MOPS. It did interfere with my daughter's naps, but the child care workers were good about putting her down for her nap. Sometimes we would leave early is she was getting fussy and couldn't nap in the nursery.

I also spent lots of time at parks. There you can meet other moms that aren't working during the day. When all else failed, I broke out the crayons and watched her scribble.
