Looking for an excellent and affordable home organizer. Also, any info you have about how the process works would be really helpful, because I don't really know what to expect. Particularly, if you've used someone, how much were you able to get done in what amount of time? What kinds of things did yours do? I'm looking to give my best friend a few hours with a Home Organizer as a b-day gift.

C., believe it or not, I also am a Professional Organizer
I am in Frisco and am a member of the National Association of Professional Organizers... which it appears there is no shortage of.
I have a member-perks ad/coupon on this site also. You can also go to my web site or blog for answers to some of your questions, or you can send a private message to me or call me and I would be happy to talk to you and help.
I have Gift Certificates also.

On a side note, one of the other posters warned you about having to do all the work yourself, and I just wanted to set the record straight for anyone else reading this thread. This is not always the case. Each organizer has thier own style and generally tailors it to your needs, abilities and budget. What a client expects and what an organizer offers should always be discussed in advance as part of a consultation so there will be no surprises.
I almost always work side by side with my clients unless thier budget prohibits it. Some clients want the work done for them, some just want direction, inspiration, or accountibility. Those clients that work side by side with an organizer and are hands on, are the most likely to experience long-term organization vs having someone come in and just do it for them.

I had a professional organizer do my work office and entire house last year. It was a fabulous process! How long it takes really depends on how big a mess you have to start with. They should come and do a free assessment for you and let you know what to exect. You can pay by the hour (good for smaller jobs like my office) or a flat fee for a big project (this is how we did the whole house). We went through every closet, drawer, cabinet, etc and made decisions about what to keep, donate or trash. Then the organizer will help you store the Keep items in a more efficient, easy to find way. A good one will also teach you processes for dealing with paperwork to keep from getting bogged down. We did my office in 2 hours. It took several days for the entire house. We have lived there 12 years and never were too efficient. I would recommend the person we used. Her name is Debbie Monahan and she can be reached at ###-###-#### or at ____@____.com.

Hi C., I am not an organizer, but I have hired one and it was not what I was expecting. I sort of thought that they would come in and organize things for me. Well, the one I used is well known. She is called the Clutter Queen. She was VERY expensive. I think something like $400 for an hour or two. The main thing you need to know is that they do NOT do the work for you. They tell YOU to go through all of your stuff. I was so exhausted by the time she left and then I had to pay her for my working. I quickly realized that I could have done that all by myself for free. So, just make sure your friend realizes that SHE will have to be working while the organizer is there. They do not do it for you. Hope this helps.

Hi C.!

I am a professional organizer and a mom of two little girls. You can look at my web site and then call or email if you still have any questions! I know one of your first questions will be about rates. Unfortunately, they vary by organizer/ job/circumstances. You should expect anywhere from $45/hr to $120/hr! I am on the lower end, if that helps. ;)

C., One question - has your friend expressed a desire for this but can't afford it? If not, you need to be very careful. What you may think needs organizing, she may be perfectly happy with. Nothing can harm a friendship more than to feel like your friend thinks you are messy, disorganized, etc. and so in need of help that they have to call in the professionals! My sister was seriously hurt when her mother-in-law gave her a book on how to organize your home so it would stay clean. Her home was healthy clean but messy because she allowed her children to play and enjoy their home. Her mother in law has a beautiful home perfectly put together, but you are afraid to sit down in it for fear of messing something up. Neither one is wrong - just different. Make sure this is something she wants and not something you think she needs. After all friendships are too rare to risk harming. Good luck!

I have a home organizing business www.arrangemyspace.com and work with lots of moms because every mom needs an organizer. Organizers usually come for 2 - 4 hour blocks of time and depending on the project, may come once a week to complete, several days in a row, once a month, whatever the client needs. I usually ask what is the most stressful project and attack it. I also have a team that can tackle a large project. Prices have a wide range among professional organizers but if you're on a tight budget, you can ask for a consultation and he or she can give you a game plan or you might have an organized friend that just has a knack for it that you can barter with. Sometimes all you need is an objective person. Check out my website or email if you would like more info.
