You must be new to the area. It is bad coming south in the morning and bad going north in the evening, than when you get to winchester ave and the 215 split is's really bad. good luck

I commuted from the Gopher Canyon exit on 15 to RB a few years ago. In the am, it backs up on 15 a mile or so before the 78 interchange and is a parking lot until RB. In the pm, traffic is heavy further south and continues until the north end of RB, it is pretty clear north on the 15 after that. I never went all the way up to Temecula, but I don't think you would get much traffic until you get closer to Temecula, though I have heard traffic can be bad in Temecula during rush hours.

I've found that Temecula (around rush hour) can really back up both northbound and southbound starting near the 79 off ramp. Sometimes up to 2 miles back for the exit. The traffic still flows around the exit but if you are not paying attention to your exit and don't know that the exits can back up that far, you will end up having to go from freeway speeds to a quick halt and cut in front of someone, which, of course, no one appreciates. Temecula has grown quickly and there are just 3 exits for the town, so hence the back ups. Once you are out of Temecula (heading southbound) things start to speed up.

If you are able I would try doing a "test" run commute.

Also, maybe check out Sigalert.com during rush hour times which can give you an idea of back ups/speed.

Good luck!

We lived there a few years ago and my husband works in Poway. The traffic was bad then. From what I hear it is worse now. It also really depends on the time you will be traveling. My husband would leave the house before 5am and he would already hit traffic and come home at around 3 and if he came any later there was traffic especially if the check point was open. It is really a long drive.
Good luck with your decission.

I would stay put if I were you. Considering gas prices, it will cost a fortune, and it won't just be 39 minutes. There is always tons of traffic - it could be 2 hours at times, depending on what time of day it is.

P.,

I did that commute for a long time. Though my commute was from Temecula to Pt. Loma. It was very tough on me and a couple of times I almost fell asleep at the wheel. I am a single mother now so I knew I couldnt do that commute and take care of three kids completley on my own so I moved to Rancho Bernardo. If you only have a 37 mile commute then that isnt bad, mine was 70 miles each way. Temecula is a very nice area...very family oriented. Its a great place to raise kids. Lake Hodges through Rancho Bernardo is where the traffic gets nasty so you should be fine.
