Hi,
We moved to the area (Nazareth) in February, and chose Palmer Pediatrics w/ Dr. Verma to keep our now 22 mo old twins up to date on their shots without too much research on our part (bad mommy!). 2 sick visits and a 2 well visits later, we're not 100% satisfied for a number of reasons. We're just not clicking. We had pleasant experiences with the Nurse Practitioner, though. Anyway, I'm looking around for a new doctor (or group) for our girls. We're looking for docs that listen to the parents, pay attention, calm, comfort, try to have some connection, show some compassion with the children, have competant nursing staff (we had an issue w/ inability to determine from the chart prior to our arrival which shots they should get, also we don't think they're real accurate at measuring length--a tricky measurement anyway, but a toddler shouldn't shrink!), who is current on the latest research/information, especially about premies, twins, low birth weight issues, reads the chart before you arrive, washes hands between children (you'd think this wouldnot be an issue...it has been in the past), and works well coordinating with any specialists that may need to be brought into the picture. THe girls are healthy, just petite, and they are pretty much caught up developmentally. I think we're also looking for an office staff that will try to get to know us...as people, not just the next name in the schedule book, you know: call us w/ the chart open or nearby, even if its to check/verify the appt. Ideally, the practice should have hours covering most of 8-5 M-F and if not Saturday office hours, then sick visits only, or something (although the standard call the answering service on the weekends would be ok), dedicated times to call in questions is also a plus, as is the competant/experienced nursing staff who can answer (or check w/ the doc and get back to us an a short while) the questions. I have spoken with and/or met staff/doctors from the following groups: ABW Pediatrics, Lehigh Valley Pedatric Associates, Drs. Stanley. Anybody have experiences with these practices(and specific doctors in these practices? Docs to avoid? Anybody have other docs we should speak with? I don't want to make waves in the LHV Pediatrician Community, but think we need a better fit-the things we're looking for aren't entirely meant to indicate we didn't get those things from the current practice-just an expression of what we're hoping to find based on a collection of our experiences. THanks for any feedback.

What can I do next?

I moved from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area and I absolutely love Children’s Healthcare on 1517 Pond Road Allentown, PA 18104-2253
###-###-####. My son has been seen by all the doctors and everyone treat him like he was their son. Here is the web site: www.childrens-healthcare.com. It's a little out of the way but if I were you I would make the drive. Good luck and let us know what happens.

Hi Marcy,

We use Miller Heights Medical Associates - Dr. Kuronya. He used to be affiliated with Palmer Family Practice but left to go on his own. I have been bringing my son (18 mo) and my daughter (11 yrs) as well as being seen by him and his associated myself. I feel very very comfortable with them both (Kuronya see kids). Please know, he bought out an older practice, so his building is slowing being updated, but the service, in my opinion is great. Their contact info: ###-###-####... We have decided for our family (after a few experiences in the eroom and giving not so great birth experience to steer clear of anyone who's affiliated soley with Easton Hospital.) GOOD LUCK!!

I have a six year old boy and twin 18 month old boys. When moving to Nazreth I also had a hard time picking a ped doc. We traveled to NJ for several years. We Just switch to Neighborhood Peds in Behtlehem. Dr Kinsley and Dr Adams (They both are women) We only have been too two well visit and two sick visit. The office staff is very nice. I love the fact that the doctor administer the shots, unlike Lehigh valley peds where I heard the nursing assistance do it. I like the doctors so far, but having a hard time adjusting because their last doctor was above the normal standards!
I did have Dr Novak at the hospital when the boys were born. He was very patient and seemed like a family man ( Also has older twins!!) Last time I heard he wasn't taking any new patient though. He does have an office in Nazareth.
You can look up ped doc on the website at St luke and Lehigh valley It atleast it is a start
Any question please write back I can go in more detail if you would like

I have Two Daughters (3 1/2 yrs and 1 1/2yrs) and we have been seeing Dr Saltz at ABC Ped's on Pond Rd in Allentown since my eldest was born.

Dr Saltz is a great guy and very caring to my girls... He truly has made an effort to get to know us and the girls and we have just sat and talked on a few occasions in the office about his girls and parenting in general.

The office also has a pediatric behavioral psychologist on staff, and you can make appointment to see her at any time as well.

The single best thing I can say about any doctor is that they know when to pass you to a specialist. My eldest daughter put her hand on the stove about a 2 years ago and burned her had VERY badly. My husband took her to the ER and she wasn't responding well to the treatment that they gave her (just gause and silvadene cream) so we made an appointment with Dr Saltz. He took one look at her hand and said to us, "I could treat her here, but as much as I have seem burns in my time as a doctor, she is very young. I would just feel better if we could get her into a burn specialist so they could have a look." he got us in to a burn unit 10 minutes after leaving his office...

After going to the burn unit, we went back to Dr Saltz for a follow up and went over with him what they had done in removing the blister and having me dress it in Xeroform Petrolatum Gauze and splinting her hand open. He was honest with telling us that was not what he had been taught to do and consequently he would not have followed the same path. He actually spoke to them about the process they had taken and made it a point to learn about the reasoning behind it. So he would have the information for the future.

The people in the burn unit had said it was good he sent us over when he did, as the skin beneath her burn had died. Because of the fast decision making of Dr Saltz in sending us there, rather than treating it heimself, my daughter has full use of her hand and no scar. (which the ER had originally said was impossible) Dr Saltz made a lifelong friend that day by knowing when to pass us over to another team.

Needless to say I would recommend him to anyone... ABC Ped's Pond Rd office Contact info is:

they do have another office on 17th st in Allentown that has more expansive hours (including Saturdays and Sunday morning as well as most holidays) in case you find yourself in a pinch on a weekend

Hope that helps!
