Hello moms! I am in need of some help. We live in Columbus in the Grove City/West Side area and I am currently looking for a new pediatrician. My son is 13 months and we have now been to 2 different doctors.
The first one we used up until my son was 7 months old and we switched because every time we had an appointment the wait was HORRIBLE!!! I could have a 9 o'clock appt and we would wait to see the Dr. until 10:30 and leave the office at almost 12. No kidding! Every appt. was this way...2 1/2 to 3 hours! My last visit I asked the girl at the desk if I made the first morning appt. if I would still be at their office for hours and she actually said, 'unfortunately yes'. Plus, my son has a developmental language delay and I kept telling the Dr. that something was wrong with him and he never took me seriously. He told me to "take him to the pool in the summer and he will be fine." I went on my own to Nisonger Center at OSU and had him evaluated, and they were shocked that the Dr dismissed me like that when it was obvious my son had an issue. There were clear indicators that something was not developing normally.
The second Dr. we are still currently seeing. The wait time is much better, in and out in less than 45 minutes. But, the Dr. does not seem to be focused on what he is doing. He actually took a personal cell phone call when he was in the room with us, and talked for almost 5 minutes. And then, he acted like nothing happened. Also, I am not really happy with their office equipment. They have me try to hold my son down on a piece of butcher paper and then the nurse marks where his head and feet are with a pen, and that is how they measure him. And their scale is not electronic. I know the traditional scale with weights works fine....but it is very hard to get a toddler to sit still long enough for someone to fiddle around with weights. :) And there use to be 3 other Dr.'s in the practice, but they all left a few months ago.
I am in no way trying to be snobby...I work in the medical field and I know things are not always perfect. :) But, I want to be confident that the Dr. will pay attention to me when I have a concern and will take his/her time with my child.
I should also add that I need a physician that is okay with delaying vaccinations. I am not anti-vaccine, but I am for delayed, spaced out vaccination. I don't want to start until my son is 2 and then do one, single dose shot about every 4 to 6 months. I did give my son the Hib and Prevnar at 2 and 4 months, due to the first Dr.s persuasiveness.
Thanks to all of you for your wonderful input. The practice I am currently going to is Grove City Pediatrics, and was mentioned positively by some of you. Maybe the Dr. was just having a bad day. I do like the staff very much, and it is very clean and never a long wait. I will give them a while longer. But, at least now I have some other options out there that I know other moms really like. :)
I love this site!

I also live in the Grove City area and there aren't many pediatricians to choose from! We now go to Hilliard Pediatrics and are very happy. They came highly recommended and we now know why. We see Dr Tim Teller, but have heard great things but the others at that practice too. Good luck! www.hilliardpeds.com

HI M. - THere are 2 practices I would recommend. There is one in Grove City but i am unsure of the name. Dr. Cardenas used to be there but retired. The other is Emerald Pediatrics in Dublin. My son will be one on Friday and I have used them since he was born. There are 5 female pediatricians who all have children themselves. I have been quite happy with them. I usually have short wait times, can get in the same day for ill appointments, and they have walk ins mon-sat from 8-9am. There number is ###-###-####. I recommend Dr. Sarah Behrens, Kristin Thompson, or Kathyrn Ginocchi. Good luck!

I have been taking my (almost 2 yr old) son to Olentangy Pediatrics on Knights Bridge Blvd. and am very happy. This is off off Bethel/Olentangy River Road and the number is ###-###-#### They offer an open house regularly also so you can meet and ask questions. There are multiple doctors (mostly women) and I have seen 4 different doctors, all have been great. We do have an "assigned" doctor but due to scheduling conflicts I have made appts. with the others.
I can't imagine waiting so long to see the doctor, especially as a full time working mom! I am usually in and out in less then an hour for routine checkups.
I am due with my second soon and am planning on taking the baby there as well!

Emerald Pediatrics in Dublin ( close to Tuttle Mall) and we see Dr. Sarah Berhens...the practice is very professional and everyone is super sweet! Good Luck with your search. I, too, was on the search for the "perfect" pediatrician about a year ago. I am very happy with the team of woman doctors at this office and I highly recommend them...if they are taking new patients.

I go to Childcare Consultants (they have offices on the west side - near dr's hospital west and up north too). The doctor we normally see is Dr. Bauer, but we've seen several others there too and haven't had any problems. Sometimes there's a wait (not as long as you mentioned), but overall i'm pleased with them.
Good luck!

I know it may be a far ride for your but we have excellent pediatricians. They catch things right away, easy to talk with and great office staff. The doctors are Dr. Eileen Bolton, Joe Fiola, MD; and NP Zoreka. They were receommended by my sister-in-law who is a peds/internal medicine doctor.
We love them, wait is not long at all.

Hi M.!
I don't know how far you are willing to drive. We live in the same area and drive up to Hilliard for our pediatrician. It's called Professional Pediatrics. I've seen 3 of the doctors in the office and have liked EVERY single one of the them. The wait time is very reasonable and I have never felt like the doctor wasn't paying attention at all. They've always been very accomodating if I've needed an "emergency" visit - I've gotten in same day (though it usually hasn't been with our pediatrician -thus seeing the other doctors). Their phone number is ###-###-####. Having a doctor you feel comfortable AND confident in is a must. Good luck!

We also live in Grove City. We take our son to Dr Carl Backes on West Broad. There is sometimes a wait but much better than when we started almost four years ago. Dr Backes diagnosed our sons' genetic disorder and is always quick to call if his testing comes back abnormal. He shows great concern and compassion where as our sons other professionals (geneticist and ophthamologist) do not. As you know, like everything, you will find good and bad in everyone. Good Luck!
