Can you believe it... she is about to turn 1 already!! I feel like I just had her yesterday!

Anyways, my little peanut is turning 1 in a few weeks and we are having a pink elephant themed birthday party for her. So to keep with the elephants theme and since the party is from 3 to 5 pm I am going to be serving snack foods; and so far my list includes shelled peanuts (like elephants love to eat), chocolate covered variety of nuts, peanut butter and jelly squares, and then for the goodie bags having nutter butter cookies, and those peanut shaped marshmellow orange looking candies and my MIL is making peanut butter flavored Gobs (whoopie pies).

What else can I have that is "peanut themed" snack type foods? Any one have suggestions? Should I do popcorn too? Or is this all too much?

(and thankfully no guests have a peanut allergy)

Thanks.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

The only "little one" at the party is the baby.. everyone else is adults and a few older kids. So, I am really not to concerned about choking. But thanks for pointing out some possible hazards. And No - I have no intentions of giving my 1 year this food. The finger foods are for the adults (grandma, grandpa aunt uncle, etc....)

Candy coated apples sprinkled with chopped nuts :) might be messy, I usually cut them in slices for my kids.

What an adorable theme. A little fruit and veggie tray would be good too, to balance out all the peanuty goodness.

That's a lot of peanuts already. What about the pink part? and the elephant part? Remember that scene where the pink psychadelic elephants were dancing, wasn't there some pink cotton candy? I would start gearing more toward pink elephants. I found an elephant musical chairs game

Games make the party guests happy. Musical chairs is a fun game to play with kids, and the winner gets a prize. Instead of traditional music, use "The Baby Elephant Walk" by Henry Mancini, and have the players hold their arms out in front of them to resemble an elephant trunk. You can find copies of this song online. Another fun game is to have the kids break up into two even teams. Have the first child in each team hold her arm out in front of her like a trunk and her other arm behind her like a tail. The second child does the same thing, but holds the tail of the child in front of him. The rest of the child follow suit and until you have two chains of elephants. The children must then walk in a line to an assigned point, like a chair or a tree, turn around the assigned point, and make it back to the finish line, which was originally the starting line. The first team to make it back wins.

I think it's cute. I would do an area on your snack table where you can put a few elephants around special bowls that will hold the theme food...the peanuts, chocolate covered nuts, and pb&j squares. Apple slices dipped in chocolate and sprinkled with chopped peanuts would be attractive and yummy too.

Then put the rest of the food on another part of the table and serve some other things that aren't peanut-elephant related. Veggies & dip, hummus & chips, and you can do a plate with smoked salmon, sliced salami, and some good hard cheeses, and bowls with a couple of different types of olives. People love that kind of finger food.

Have a blast!! Take lots of pics too.

i agree if there will be other 1 year olds, i'd avoid peanuts, u don't want er visits and your party to be remembered as the party that exposed a baby to peanuts to early...you could have a cupcake cake that looks like an elephant with it blowing a ornage mrshamllow peanut in the air with your daughters name written on the peanut candy?? then have the decorations be more peanuts but the food more circus related or elephants?

A fave candy dish type snack around here in the fall is salted peanuts(no shells) with Candy Corn mixed together. Tastes sorta like a salted nut roll candy bar. Sweet and salty with your crunch!

Have fun!

I wouldn't have popcorn for one-year-olds, nor actual whole peanuts or peanut candies (like M&M's) on their own nor in things (like in caramel or cookies), to be honest. They're horrible choking hazards. And if you have other one-year-olds or toddlers attending they're too young to know for certain if they've developed peanut allergies or not.

I say this as someone who suffers from a peanut allergy. Peanut party just has "all kinds of bad" written all over it. I really don't mean to sound like a party pooper or rain on your parade with unwanted advice, but I would hate for a child to choke or have an unexpected anaphylactic shock because "no one at the party is allergic."

I'm not at all one to be paranoid momma...but be SUPER careful...many of the items you're thinking of having are choking hazards (especially peanuts/nuts, circus peanuts (the orange candies), and popcorn).

What if you expanded to a circus theme? There are a lot more options that way... ;o)

Thai food has a lot of peanut sauce-
you could do a cold sesame noodle with peanut sauce, or you could do chicken satay skewers with peanut sauce. both are tasty and are more savory/ food like than the other stuff on your menu.
I'm also a fan of peanut butter, bacon and banana panini.

sounds lovely.

Well, I'm a big fan of any/all nut butter so this sounds like my kind of party. How about some healthy options like pretzel sticks, apples and other dippables treats along with PB, almond butter, etc.
