We are moving to the Tulsa area in a few weeks and have a daughter with Type 1 Diabetes. Does anyone have any good recommendations for a good pediatrician and also a good pediatric endocrinologist? We are looking to live in Jenks- just haven't found a place yet! :)

I would check with your insuarance to see if you can see anyone at the warren clinic. I am a Type 2 a and my Dr is Colin Marouk. He had me go to a teacher who let a class of mew diabetes. I would also check with AMD.

We go to Birth and Beyond Pediatrics and see Dr. Alka Sood. We love her. The other doctors in the office are Dr. Sanjiv Sood (Dr. Alka's husband), Dr. Jones (a woman) and they have a nurse practitioner, Ms. Jodie. They are all wonderful!!! The nurses are all wonderful and the staff is wonderful as well. They have a nurseline that you can call during business hours and talk to a nurse if you just have a question. And we have always been able to get in if we have a sick child that needs to be seen. Their website is http://doctorsood.com. I don't know about any endocrinologists, but Dr. Sood's office should be able to help you with that.

First of all - welcome to Tulsa!

I also use Pediatric & Adloscent Care ###-###-####). They have a wonderful group of doctors. My children have gotten old enough that they have preferences on which doctor so I've seen several of them: Dr. Sherri Gordon, Dr. Sandra Wan & Dr. Donald Zetik are the ones I use most often.

I've not used this pediatric endo but I've heard great things about him - Dr. David Jelley ###-###-####)

I can highly recommend Kathy Koljack and her office is in Jenks. She has given my children very personalized attention. She has often called my home to follow up on their progress after they have seen her for potentially dangerous conditions, like asthma and spider bites. Best of all my son liked her and had rapport with her. He would even take himself in for appointments when he was in high school. (She finally had to suggest he find an adult Dr. when he was in college.) I would definitely trust her for a referral to a pediatric endocrinologist.

The pediatrician I was seeing turned out to be a bad experience. I was seeing Dr. Jones at Birth and Beyond pediatrics...loved her at first, but I didn't feel like she was doing her best in her care of my son. He was running a low grade fever for about 7wks and she said "oh its probably just viral and will run its course." She said they wouldn't be concerned unless it was over 101.0, I was very unhappy. Then, after 6wks of the fever she decided to check his ears and said he had a LOT of fluid behind his ear, but no infection, so they'd follow up on it in A MONTH! 3days later he had a massive ear infection in that ear. My son now sees a primary care doctor and I LOVE her. Dr. Kyra Vineyard ###-###-####, www.doctorvineyard.com. She's the one that found his ear infection, she treated it, a few weeks later, it was back. Who knows if he'd had ear infections withing that 7 wks because Dr. Jones NEVER checked his ears...she had seen him since he was born, and checked his ears maybe twice...THEN when I requested his records to transfer his care, i flipped through them and she had marked that she'd looked at his ears at EVERY visit and they were normal, and that's a flat out LIE!!! So I would definitely NOT recommend Dr. Janet Jones...but Dr Kyra Vineyard is WONDERFUL!!!!

As for you not having found a place yet. There is a new neiborhood in Southern Reserve, gorgeous neighborhood with community park and pool...its in the Jenks school district, but because the post office sets the postal zones, the address would be in sapulpa, really weird i know, but we just bought a house there and we LOVE it.

You can check out some of their floor plans at capitalhomes.com. Matt Christie was our capital homes representative and he's been absolutely great through the whole homebuying process and if you use their lender, they pay your closing costs. just an idea. Good luck!

Dr. Hendricks at Pediatric & Adolescent Care is awesome. He's been my kids' pediatrician since my first child was born, and he's almost 16 now. Their number is ###-###-####, and I'm sure they could recommend an endocrinologist for you. Good luck, and welcome to Tulsa! :o)

My husband has Type 1 Diabetes and has seen the same doctor since he was diagnosed as a child. His name is Andrew S Khouw. He's through the Warren Clinic and St Francis system at 61st and Yale. My husband has been very happy with him for 15 years and would never want to change. And as for a regular pediatrician, we have always used Dr. Christine Narrin. She is at South Tulsa Pediatrics and is absolutely amazing. Our oldest has Down Syndrome and she has been his doc since birth along with all our kids since. We actually moved out of state and came back just because we couldn't find a pediatrician we liked as much as her. Hope this helps. Good luck and welcome to town.
