Need Prenatal Care No Health Insurance

I have a friend who is 20 weeks pregnant, and needs to get into an Midwife/OB ASAP. She just went to the ER on Friday and has fibroids that are extremely painful. The doctor told her she should be seen by an OB this week. She has no insurance and has been denied Healthwave in Kansas. Does anyone out there know of somewhere she can go? She does have an appointment and the Johnson County Health Clinic, but they can't get her in until Dec. 11th.

What can I do next?

There is also a Mercy and Truth at Nieman and Johnson Drive in Shawnee. I don't know if they provide prenatal service, but they do offer service free or reduced costs. Good luck, I hope your friend finds a doctor, I know what it's like to be without health insurance.

Any OB will give a discounted prenatal care for anyone w/o insurance. I did not have insurance w/ my first and we got a discount @ the Dr.'s, as well as the hospital. the thing though, is you have to pay usually up front or within a certain time frame, so if your friend is looking for free care she isn't going to get it(she'll have to cut back on shoes and purses :) ). I went to Johnson County Womens Clinic, Dr. Lofton is awesome!!

I'm not sure where she lives but in Raytown there is a clinic called Mercy and Truth and they work with people who do not have insurance. It might be worth a try.

I am a Social Worker and work with pregnant women without insurance all the time. There are several places that she can go. The Johnson County Health Department will probably be most cost friendly place to go. If she wants to be seen right away she can go to Mercy and Truth Medical Mission. They have offices in both Shawnee and KCK. They also have a birthing center if she wants to go the midwife route. It is true that she can pay up front for and OB/GYN it will be around 1500-2000 dollars if that is not possible she needs to keep her appointment with the JOCO HD. I second the reccomendation for Women's Clinic of Johnson County I went there for my daughter and had Dr. Holmes. Please let me know if you have any other questions I would be happy to answer. Your friend needs to apply for Medicaid/Healthwave again at delivery as income changes and they may need the denial letter to offer her a discount and payment plan.

Yes, I was also going to suggest she call an office and explain she doesn't have insurance. Most offices will accomodate her somehow. Also, Shawenee Mission Medical Center has a flat fee for delivery for mothers without insurance.

Hello!

I would go to Mercy and Truth Clinic. It costs $50 per month to see a midwife. It is located in Kansas City, Kansas off 31st. It costs $3000 to deliver there as well. Good luck!
