My son has recently begun going to daycare on M-W-F to prepare him for when I return to work in August and he has to go full-time. This past school year, he was in MDO two days a week. He is having a difficult time adjusting--he cries at drop-off, is fine during the day there, and then starts getting sad towards the end of the day when I go to pick him up. Do you think it would be easier for him to get into a routine and such if he went Monday thru Friday, rather than skipping Tuesdays and Thursdays? I would only take him for half-days on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The MAIN reason I have him going in the first place is for the social interaction he gets with the other kids and getting him used to being okay away from mommy and daddy. We don't have other kids around for him to interact with, and play dates aren't the same since I am there with him.
Once again, I am just wondering if having him go everyday would make it easier and less confusing for him. I'm getting tired of having to act tough and not cry when I drop him off, knowing that he doesn't have to go in the first place. I appreciate any input. Thanks!
Sounds like anxiety and it seems like this is a new situation. Routines can help with anxiety, but I would think three days per week would be enough stability for this to calm down with time.
No, I wouldn't. Enjoy that time at home with him while you can. I do in-home childcare, and they ALL do this! Some throw major tantrums, others are easier, but it's natural for them to feel some anxiety. They always have a blast playing and the stimulation that they get is great! He'll be fine.
he will adjust! give it time! but i'd leave it part time till august and give him the time to adjust before he is there full time. enjoy your 2 days a week this summer!
