neTailbone Pain

I'm wondering if anyone else has had similar problem... For about the past six months or so, my tailbone has been hurting. I haven't recently fallen on it (I did about two years ago...but experienced no pain at the time). My son is 7 years old, so I can't blame childbirth. I have in the past two years or so, put on about 20 pounds. I do sit at my computer for work about 9 hours a day and that does not count the hours I sit in the car or at home. I don't exercise hardly at all...
I know I just pretty much said what my problem was, but I wondered if any of you have experienced this and what you did for it.

Answering Questions: I don't really know what kind of pain it is....If I push down where I'd say my tailbone is, I feel a bony, bumpy structure and that's what hurts. I don't feel any cysts...just bone.
Also - I've been to the doctor for X-rays and they say they don't show anything...
My pain comes and goes as well. Sometimes it hurts for a week, sometimes it doesn't hurt for a month...

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for everyone's advice. I think I may try the chiropractor route... I appreciate the support. I hate when you look up something on the internet and everything is doom and gloom or even something silly like a papercut spells cancer! :)

I will second Dawn B.'s advice. Find a chiropractor to do an internal adjustment. As uncomfortable as it may sound, I went years with tailbone pain before I could bring myself to allow that sort of adjustment. The result, though, was like a miracle! My pain went away after J. the one adjustment. Good luck!

Hi, I had tailbone pain also. The pain started after childbirth for me. I went to an orthopedic and he gave me an MRI. No fracture. He then gave me two steroid shots in the area. I had full relief after the second shot. I hope this helps.

This kind of sounds silly....but I suffered with this type of pain also for about a year before figuring out it was actually my car seat that was causing the pain. It didn't matter if I was in the car 5 minutes or 5 hours. I had to trade in the auto for another one.

S.,
I'm wondering if it's just the tailbone or could it be sciatic pain?

You have great suggestions here, but thought I'd add. If you are sitting for your job, it can be your posture. Unknowingly putting strain on your lower back/tailbone. I say that because that happens to me when I forget to sit properly and to those silly (but effective) desk stretches.
Be sure to do those desk exercises, look into getting a ball to replace your chair - if you are allowed. Start slowly sitting at it for only 20 minutes at a time, etc. It does take time.
These are suggestions IN ADDITION to your great SWH of going to see a chiro.
Best!

My tailbone hurts when I sit for an hour or more at the computer. I stop the pain by sitting more forward putting more weight on my thighs. I change positions frequently. If you just sat with more weight on your thighs it would slow down circulation in your legs and you don't want that.

Since you're having pain all of the time I suggest consulting with a doctor. The tailbone may have somehow gotten pushed in.

You could try sitting on a donut shaped cushion. My cousin fell on his tailbone which was pushed inward and he used such a cushion to help lessen the pain. You can find one at a medical supply store.

I have the tailbone pain you describe. I'm underweight, and get little exercise. The pain comes and goes a bit, though. I'll have it sometimes for months, and then it will go away for awhile. It always comes back again at some point. I have arthritis in my shoulders, elbows, and hands, so I'm guessing this pain may be arthritis related as well, since the pain comes and goes like my arthritis pain. I'm just ignoring it for now.

I hope you feel better. :)
