I have used Mary Kay products for 14 years and it has worked great for my oily and acne-prone skin type. But now at age 33, it is not working as it used to. I have tried to change it up with the TimeWise 3-in-1 Cleanser, rather than the just Clear Proof Acne System, as well as the Botanical Effects.
Have any of you experienced the same? And/or what other acne treatment/oily skincare products do you recommend?

What can I do next?

I've had good experience with Proactive. I didn't use all their products- just the toner. I would use it after washing my face every day and did notice a big difference.

I second the idea of seeing a dermatologist. You might have some underlying issue that may need to be addressed.

As we age, our skin changes, so it's possible that your skin needs have changed and your products are no longer working. I just went through this myself, and I'm 44. I had to change products myself.

For my acne, when I get it, and yes at 44 I still get it, I use a product from Origins called Super Spot Remover. You put a small amount on each spot every day until it's gone. Origins has a whole acne line. I buy my stuff from a store, but they are also online at www.origins.com

Good luck with this!

I would see a dermatologist to try to figure out why something was no longer working. It could be something in your diet, not enough water, etc.

Have you changed your routine of cleaning? Never sleep with makeup on? All the usual questions like that..

Our dermatologist recommends Purpose soap and/or Cetaphil cleanser.

Go to the Dr., it will probably be worth your time and money to get a true diagnosis.

I used Proactive and it worked well for me. You have to follow all of the steps to reduce breakouts. It works really well when steps are followed. I now use Oil of Olay. I use the cleanser, toner and moisturizer. They are working well however I would try Proactive first. Good luck.

None of the acne systems ever worked for me. They made my breakouts worse. Peroxides, salicylic acids, all that...my face hated them. I finally chose a mild face cleanser (Clean and Clear sensitive skin foaming face wash) with no medications in it. I apply the soap in the shower gently with my hands and then use a scrubby loofah cloth (from Walmart) to gently remove dead skin and roughness. Rinse well, pat dry. I then apply CeraVe daytime moisturizer with SPF 30. I usually put it on at night and don't do anything to my face in the morning.

I thought my face was too oily for a moisturizer, but the problem I was having was that I was washing my face far too often. Cutting down to once a day really helped my face to heal. I stopped using toners and astringents and things that stripped my face's natural antimicrobial properties. My face has never been clearer. Sometimes less is best.

The best thing I ever did for myself was to go to a dermatologist for my acne. A lot of these over-the-counter things are such a waste of money, to be honest. After trying several prescriptions, my doctor and I decided to go the Accutane route. To be clear, being on Accutane sucks, and it's about a 6 month course of treatment. But when you're done, your skin is no longer oily, and will be pretty much perfect forever. And then you can use whatever you want on your skin, and not even worry about it. ;)

I did not have acne as a teen. I did in my early 30's. I saw a dermatologist who said I had rosacea otherwise called adult acne. This was very long ago. I remember using a hydrocortisone cream back when it required a prescription.

I still have some breakouts. My cheeks are a bit flushed looking, another symptom of rosacea. I use OTC benzoyl peroxide gel which mostly clears it up in a week. If it doesn't I use hydrocortisone. My breakouts are just lumps now. Early on they erupted. Because I got treatment early on I have no scars.

I have a light case. Many people have enough pimples that scar. If you have rosacea it's important to get treatment early before it spreads.
