My family will be moving from Florida to the Alpharetta area at the end of June. My oldest will be starting 1st grade in the fall. I am needing as much input as possible about the best public elementary and middle schools so that we can figure out where to live. Thank you!

What can I do next?

Alpharetta is a great area for schools in general. If you go to schoolmatters.com you can compare and research some of the schools in the area. I live in East Cobb (area of Marietta) and it also has some of the best schools around. Whatever you do, I would suggest that you or your husband choose an area that is not far from work. Traffic in ATlanta is some of the worst in the country. This includes the suburb. local street areas. It goes far beyond the highways. So if at all possible, keep a short commute so you can spend more time with your family. Lots of luck!

When you start looking at homes, find out what the schools are and put them in here. Overall, Alpharetta has good schools, but this will give you an idea where they rank statewide, as well as links to the individual schools. It may help you narrow down to a certain school district.

Honestly, you can't go wrong with any school in Alpharetta. They are all award winning schools that feed into great middle schools and fantastic high schools. I have a 15 yo son and 5 yo daughter and my experience with our schools has been awesome. We live in Johns Creek- formerly Alpharetta- and are districted to Findley Oaks ES, River Trail MS and Northview HS. The feel of the school comes directly from administration, meaning if you don't have a good foundation the school will not show it. Additionally, my son has some special needs (physical and scholastic) but is on par with his peers academically and his schools have been nothing short of fantastic!

On a side note, when you visit the area, drive different routes from you husbands workplace to areas you are interested in living. This will help you figure out commute times with respect to traffic flow etc. There tends to be more traffic into Alpharetta in the am and reverse in the evening. Good luck!
