Hi S.,
You may have already found a doctor, but I had my baby girl at St. Joes w/ Ann Arbor OBGYN (Dr. A. Kreske and Dr. Johnston). All the doctors in that practice are awesome and they're all very supportive.
I would love some opinions on Ob/gyns and which hospital you liked better between St. Josephs and U of M.
Thanks!
Thanks everyone! I have an appt. with a U of M Dr. and a St. Joes Dr. I am going to meet both of the nurses and then decide.

I love my OB/GYN & almost all the doctors that are there. Her name is Toanh Popp. I delivered both my boys at St. Joe's, which I love as well. I stayed there for 2 nights/3 days, compared to U of M where you only stay for 1 night/2 days. I used the labor & delivery room with a jacuzzi both times and had the best nurse. Here's the address and phone # to my OB/GYN.

Welcome to the area!
I second that Dr. Kresge was a great OB/GYN along with all of the other Dr.'s in her office. St. Joe's was a great place to have the baby because the staff was so attentive and helpful. The lactation staff there were a little aggressive, but do what is comfortable for you and the nursing staff will support you.
Now my 4 year old son had to have surgery a couple of years ago and UM was the place to be for that. The highly competent Pediatric team made us all feel so comfortable in a stressful situation.
I also choose St Joes, and my experience on the birthing side was awesome (they left a lot to be desired when it came to helping with breastfeeding). I had a non medicated intervention free birth and everyone was VERY supportive. The nurses were awesome. My doctor is Dr. Toanh Popp and she is great! You can find her on www.ihacares.com
Hi S.,
I am a mother of 3, I delivered all three at St. Joes. Very good experience with all three. The nurses were so nice and helpful. The hospital itself gives off to me a very warm comfortable feeling. I love my OBGYN. A lot of people hate to go to those kind of appointments. I do not dreed them at all. My doctor is Dr. Fleming he is located in the Reichart building at St. Joe's. He makes you feel so comfortable, and talks with you about everything health related not just the female things. He really is a great man. I have recommended him to several people. Not one of them have gone to him and been unhappy. They love him as much as I do, and thank me every time they go to their yearly appointment. I can not say enough good things about Dr. Fleming. I wish I could go to him for all of my health issues. Good luck with your search!!!!
Hello! Welcome to the area!
As far as OB/GYN's. I see Dr. Alison Kreske and I LOVE her. I have had 3 babies, and found her for my 3rd and have NO plans on switching! She is located right near St. Joes. She always listens to my concerns and questions and talks to me about all choices. She never rushes me out of the office. If you are interested her number is ###-###-####
As far as hospitals. Well, I prefer St. Joes. Just UofM is so large. I prefer something a bit smaller. They both have great drs. UofM is a teaching school, but I think that St. Joes is also. As for my labors there I have had students (or whatever they are called LOL) in the room with me too. UofM is better for infants with health problems. My baby had rsv right after christmas and his pedi recommended UofM, we were in for a few days.
Tosha :)
The doctor I went to is based out of St. Joe ... and I've delivered there twice and haven't had a problem; plus they just built a new wing for patients that is supposed to be really nice. The office is Associates in Gynocology and Obstetrics and it's on Golfside. The phone number is ###-###-####. My doctor was Dr. Beemer, but you see all the doctors in the practice just in case your doctor isn't on call when you go into labor and they're all great. My mom used this group too. Good luck and Congratulations!
Hi S.:)
I delivered my daughter at St. Joe's 4 months ago and was VERY impressed with my experience! I even wrote a letter! Every nurse I had was helpful and compassionate, the labor and delivery room was gorgeous, the mom and baby unit was small but you probably wont feel like doing alot of moving around anyways...Seriously, best experience I could have hoped for! My sister delivered at U of M and though it was okay with her, it is a teaching school so ALOT of residents were in and out, poking and prodding...as far as ob's
I LOVE mine, he is very knowledgable, patient, funny with excellent bedside manner! His name is Dr. Edward Merkel at IHA in Canton (St.Joes affiliate)...side note, I had a c-section and apparently I have a "beautiful" incision and now scar-EVERY single nurse or doctor that checked on me after the birth said the same thing, that it was the cleanest, straightest incision and when I would tell them it was Dr.Merkel they never acted suprised but rather like they all ready new he was awesome! I guess there is some pretty nasty c-section scars out there?! Anyways, hope this is helpful-I feel pretty strong about it or I wouldnt have responded...The whole experience is still VERY fresh in my mind so If you have any more questions feel free to ask away...
Hi S.,
I go to Associates in Gy. and Ob. as well. I have been going there since I was 20 and I am now 31. My Dr. is Dr. Popp, who I LOVE, she has really taken the time to get to know me and my husband. She takes time to listen and work with you, not tell you what you need to do. I went through two high risk pregnancies with this staff, and got to know much of the staff very well. If you prefer a male doctor, Dr. Deenadaylu delivered my son through a very complicated c-section and did great. I am also quite fond of Dr. Moyer who stabilized what originally I was told was going to be an emergency c-section when I arrived at the hospital during a preeclampsia episode. If you are not in need of obstetrics, I saw Dr. Morris for my first few years in the office and she is delightful as well. The nurse and support staff are great too. Feel free to contact me if you have any specific questions.
I delivered at St. Joe and I love it there as well. It is a bit more intimate, easier for guests to visit. They have a new birthing/delivery ward (2004?) So it is pretty nice!
Hi S.
I have three boys, all born at U of M. I really LOVED the nursing staff there, as they always took time to care for my children and never forgot about me! They were wonderful. I had different doctors for each delivery, but if I had the option all would have been with Dr. Elizabeth Shadigian. She is a wonderfully attentive physician. She recently opened a private clinic of her own...Women Safe Health. 2340 E Stadium. the phone number is ###-###-####. I recommend her at this office because she will take TIME with you and you will never feel that you have remaining questions. There are longer appointments than traditional offices and you never feel that she is running out on you. I hope this helps you a bit.
(She also is on staff with U of M, so you would deliver there.)
Good Luck in your search! L.
Go with St. Joes. They have all new private rooms and it easier to get around that U/M. I would recommend Ann Arbor Ob/Gyn Associates. Dr. Long is awesome.
