You were joking right? Boob jobs are cosmetic, there may be exceptions for cancer. I'm assuming that isn't why she wants one. Anyway, She needs to pay for her own boobs! I wouldn't loan her the money.

Let me see if I understand this. She is married with kids, is an RN and want to borrow money from YOU to get new boobs? Gee, can I get a loan for new boobs too? Mine sagged after I had my kids as well! I'm just floored by this request.

You need to STOP leanding her money NOW. If new boobs are important to her, here is a clue, she can SAVE her money and get new boobs.

The only time insurance will pay is if it is a medical necessity. Just because your boobs sagged after babies is not a medical necessity. She should go to Victoria Secrets and buy new bras. Plus, its tons cheaper!

Sounds like a friend I know. Her daughter just got married, is pregnant, husband is at a duty station not local, and daughter and young son are living at home with Mom/Dad while going to school until new husband gets back from deployment.
She wants a boob job when he gets back. !! What?! THAT is the big priority? Not a house. Not furnishings for a place for them to live. Not anything to be independent from her folks.... she wants a boob job. :/ I just do NOT understand people these days....

Well, is it a breast augmentation (i.e. implants to make them bigger) or reduction (to make them smaller). Because sometimes reductions can be covered by insurance if a doctor declares it necessary (causing back pain, etc.) But implants? No, unless she had had a mastectomy?

But no, I would not loan her the money for it. She may have eventually paid you back in the past for other things, but they still were not on time. A bank would not keep loaning her money if she was late on paying off loans in the past. So don't be her bank any longer. She's basically using you like a interest-free credit card that she can just make payments on when it suits her. Time to stop enabling her and she will need to figure out another way to get the money she wants - or better manage what she has.

If she is going for an enhancement, then this is considered cosmetic and not covered by insurance.

If she is getting a reduction because she is having other medical issues, insurance should cover a portion.

I would hope not! Only if you had cancer would I ever think it was ok to get a boob job. After having two kids I can see getting a boob lift but never get bigger ones. If you need to have a reduction because of back problems I can also see insurance helping. But my neighbor just had hers reduced and the insurance did not cover it for her. I assume that she wants them larger with implants. I suggest she figure out how to be happy and proud of who she is instead of what her body is..or is not at the moment. The wold is going to end up looking like Heidi Montag after instead of the beautiful woman she was before !!!

If she can ask to borrow $2400 for a boob job, then what other "necessities" is the money going to? Sure, she will tell you that she needs $100 for groceries or utilities, etc. but maybe she already spent $100 on a massage. After all, she works hard all day...

It sounds like she has no money sense and isn't going to learn it unless you teach it to her. Just my opinion but it sounds like you should give her a book on personal finance INSTEAD of any amount of cash.

No, it's considered cosmetic. Even w/cancer treatments, it's still considered cosmetic. Now things may've changed to where insurance might cover it IF it's for cancer reconstruction but as far as I know, no matter what the reason..whether it's for personal choice or even for reconstruction, it's still cosmetic & self pay. see how she reacts to the NO word. She may reconsider such
an operation if she has to save up for it. If she wants it bad enough,
she will find a way to save. I hear a lift is cheaper and more natural.

What a hoot. She's workin' you, that's for sure. Does her husband and your sister know that she continually asks you for money? And do they know that you give it to her?

Something that can permanently disfigure, has the potential to go wrong, and is life changing (good or bad) is something that her parents should be dealing with, or getting funded by her.

Elective surgery is a luxury that comes with alot of responsibilities. I wouldn't want to be the one who funded it if she ends up with a uni-boob, sick from the silicone, or hating it because they're too big and no one takes her seriously anymore.

So no, I wouldn't give it another thought. I would however, tell her she needs to get her priorities straight. For that kind of money, perhaps she should be looking at a graduate degree, a wedding gown, or paying off some loans or a downpayment for her first house. Anything but that. She's probably already beautiful. She just has to believe it and find more worthwhile projects.
