Nine Year Old Birthday Party

My daughter will be turning 9 in a week and we're having her party at "Pump it Up". My question is when do you stop giving gift bags to the kids that come? I am spending quite a bit of money on this party as it is and I think she and her friends are getting a little too old to be receiving gift bags at parties. Any suggestions or thoughts are much appreciated.

If my kids have a party at a place like Chuck E Cheese, we usually do not do goody bags. When I do a goody bag I just do a hand full of candy in a bag. My oldest is right after Halloween so i just get candy on clearance.

I think your right. They are too old by this age. My daughters 8th didn't get any. The party costs so much these days.

Hi K.,

I'm not sure what their idea of a "complimentary paper product" is, but why not ask your daughter if she really wants gift bags for her party? If she says she does, then the Dollar Store or Dollar Tree are good options for getting favors for the bags, and the bags themselves. Maybe by next year, you won't be supplying them anymore.

But, if you truly think they're too old, then just don't do it, and don't mention to her you're not going to. They're probably going to be having too much fun to even think about it.

My understanding is that the goodie bags are for entertainment AT the party. I see no reason why you should be required to produce them. If you realy feel obliged for something you can be creative. Our last party was a tea party and I went to the thrift store and bought cups and saucers that each guest took home.

Pump it Up is an awesome party venue, the kids will be so busy they probably won't even notice the absence of a party bag. At any rate, the moms will love you for it. No more cheap plastic stuff.

My kids are 4, 5, and 6. We have had several parties now, and I have yet to hand out goodie bags. Call me cheap? I don't care. They are cheap toys and the kids break, lose, or just don't bother with anyways. Besides, having a party at "Pump it Up" should be gift enough for the guests! :) I will be curious what others have to say about this...
