Hi Moms',
As some of you may know the California budget has been cut. My 9 year old daughter is in GATE and the budget for that has been totally eliminated. Another mom and myself have set up a fundraiser through See's candy in hopes that we will earn some money to help out the program. I'm asking all of you for advice on any other great fund raising tips that have worked for your school. Right now we are willing to try anything to help our children. Thanks

Our preschool took one or two art pieces from each child and worked with a company that does prints, mugs, potholders you name it pretty much. Then they have a one night party. All the kids artwork is on display. You can 'buy' your child's piece or another childs. You can then order different items with the artwork on them. I love the potholders and trivets. we have given them as holiday gifts to family members over the past few years. They called the one night event "Art to Touch your Heart' i just looked at one of the trivets. There's a # 1 888 332 3294 and it's called square 1 art.com- You may want to check it out. I still have notecards from when she was 3. Best, H.
Hi J.-
I am a high school theatre teacher so I spend a LOT of time fundraising. One event we found this year that has brought in loads of money is the Simon Evening of Giving. If you are near a Simon mall they have a night where the mall stays open late for ticket holders and many of the stores offer huge discounts. I am in North Orange County and the Brea Mall's event is on Nov. 23. The tickets are $10.00 each and $7.00 of that goes right to your organization. My theatre kids sold around 300 of the tickets so we brought in several thousand dollars in a short time. It might be too late for this year, but you could consider it for the future. You can go to the Simon mall website to get more info. We also sell Gold Canyon Candles and make good money from those as well. If you need any tips on organizing fundraisers, feel free to send me an email....and best of luck. I think it is wonderful that you are working to keep the program alive.
Hi J.,
I know of a fundraiser that allows for a non-profit to get an account with a company and have a check coming in month, after month, after month..........so it is not just a one time fundraiser......it's on going!
;)
Let me know if you'd like to learn more.

The school my children attend has to do fundraising to pay for field trips, library funds, and any extra programs we have. One trick is to only have the PTA do the fundraising. The school has to follow protocol on how they spend the money by law. The PTA has no restrictions as long as it goes to school programs.
We sign up to sell wrapping paper in the fall(Innisbrook is the name of the company). This Sept. we raised over $16,000 net. We also sell candy in the Spring, and have a physical fitness day where we ask businesses to donate money and they in turn will get advertising at the event.
I used to work at a school, and the school I worked with had a partnership with a large business. The school would put in a request of things they needed funding for, the business would buy or pay for it, and in turn would get a tax write-off for it. It really worked well.
Good luck!
Hi J.,
I am a member of Kiwanis International and our biggest fundraiser is our bi-annual poker tournament. I doubt I need to tell you how popular poker tournaments are right now and we have capitalized on that. We normally bring in $20K to $25K each tournament with 97% of the proceeds going back into the community. Twice now we have been written up in the OC Register as a model on how to raise funds for our various needs. I'm sure you can get an archival copy if you wanted. At any rate, it is a lot of work and it takes a big commitment however the payoff is worth it. Feel free to contact me if you want more information. Good luck to you.

I know of a high school in So. Cal that funded it's music teacher's full salary through fund raising events when the school said his position would be eliminated because of funding. One was a charity dinner and auction. Parents and other community members paid per plate and bid on donated items ranging from actual things donated by businesses, to spa gift certificates and special offers like babysitting hours, car washing, etc. Good luck!
Hi J.,
I am so sorry to hear what the budget cuts have done to you and your family.
I'd love to help you out - I teach skin care to young ladies (just like your daughter.) I am in the Long Beach area, but I travel. We can invite her girlfriends and school friends - I do need the parents' permission. I take about an hour (no longer than an hour and a half.) All the girls would receive a cleanser, moisturizer and compact with pressed powder after they attend the class. All proceeds would go straight to you and your daughter's GATE fund for school.
Let me know if this interest's you.
Thanks!
P.

Hello, J..
My name is A. and I am a 3rd grade teacher in Orange County. I am so saddened by the continual budget cuts and how it negatively affects our children, schools, and educational programs. I am also a consultant for Votre Vu, French skincare and for Southern Living At Home. If you want something small, I am happy to share my product and offer all of my profit to aid your fundraiser. If you want to do this and something on a larger scale, your school can host a boutique and charge $20 per vendor. I can help you with that. Let me know how I can be of service to you.
