I've seen kids as old as 12 months with only 2 teeth...if you're concerned talk to the pediatrition or take the child to a pediatric dentist.
My son will be 10 mths old next week and has yet to cut a tooth. He acts like he is teething but has been that way since birth. When is a normal age for them to cut a tooth and also when should I start to worry and seek a dentist? Thanks in advance.
We have teeth!!!! LOL 2 to be exact. They started showing through today.....

I will add to the mix and say do not worry. I have 4 kids, only one of them cut teeth prior to their first birthday. My 3rd child was 14 months before he got his first tooth. I was also told by my dentist that the later the better as far as the teeth are concerned. It has proven to be true for my kids...they are 19, 16, 15 and 8 and not one has ever had a cavity or a dental problem....in their baby teeth, as well as their adult teeth.
It's okay, I promise!! My son didn't cut his first tooth until 12 months, He got his 2 bottom ones in at the same time. His 2 top just came in and he's almost 15 months old. Don't start freaking out just yet!! Just make sure he's got things to chew on, and you have plenty of baby tylenol and orajel handy. It will happen soon enough.
Getting teeth is mostly hereditary. My kids didn't get a tooth until after their 1st birthday. My sister and I were the same way. Our doctors (we've had several) all said the same thing... no reason to be concerned until 18 months and no teeth. The "normal" range is 4 months to 18 months. Babies/toddlers don't need teeth to eat. Most babies that do have teeth only have them in the front and you don't use those for chewing. Babies/toddler can gum anything. Both my kids were eating normal table/grown-up food only (no mushed baby food at all) by 7-8 months. It just had to be cut into small pea-size pieces because they couldn't bite off bits themselves.
My oldest daughter did not get her first tooth until about 10 and a half months old. My other three children received their first tooth between 4 and 5 months. She did not have any problems with her teeth and was actually the first one to loose them as well. I would not worry about this immediately. The age range that I have seen in books is between 4 and 10 months old.
7-10 months is around average for most children to get their first teeth. I am a Pediatric Dentist and I have seen newborns with teeth and 19 month olds just beginning to erupt teeth. Both ages are extremes and unfortunately, some newborns with teeth do not have enough developed root and often the tooth or teeth must be removed. Most newborns, if the teeth are not so loose that they might aspirate them into their lungs, can keep those "natal" teeth, though sometimes are a little different in shape or color.
The age for the first tooth eruption can vary from child to child in the same family. Sequence of eruption is more important than the age although it gets frustrating and worrisome to parents when it seems like all their friend's children already have teeth.
By the way, The American Academy of Pediatrics, The American Dental Association and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry all recommend the first dental exam for children to be within 6 months of the first tooth erupting or by 12 months of age. You can check it out on each of their web sites.
My daughter also didn't get any teeth until she was alomst 1 year old!! She'll be 3 in February and still doesn't have all her teeth!! Don't worry!!! He'll get them when he gets them!
Also, I have dentists in my family, and most don't need or like to see children before 3 yrs old. But it may be different around your area. Hope this was helpful!
babies get teeth at different stages....my daughter got her 1st 2 teeth at 4 months old. but i know a lady whose granddaughter didn't have teeth till she was over a year old. don't worry about it too much. it's normal.
my son will be three months today, on the 4th, he is starting to cut his teeth already one up front and two on the sides. i am a new mother this is only baby, some babies cut teeth early, while other do it later. i won't worry. my newphew didn't cut his teeth until he 18 months and he is now 4, my niece cut her later on and she is now 3. it will be okay, it's takes time, again most cut earlier and most don't. but if you are worried about him cutting teeth, call a denist and ask them what they think.
It happens at different times for different kids; just like everyone else has said. My son had all his teeth by age 1 and cust his first year molars on his first birthday (with a temp of 103, talk about a fun birthday!)But then my sisters little boy only had his two front teeth and two bottom front teeth on his first birthday.
Both boys are big eaters and always have been, both on regular food by about 10 months, so it doesn't seem to really matter, I guess as long as you don't try to let him gum up a piece of steak!
There's nothing the doctor or dentist can do to make his teeth appear so I wouldn't worry. They will come!
hi, my little girl was over ayear ols before she got her first tooth. she showed signs of teething from early on, but still know teeth. so not to worry they will come in soon.
My friends boy did not cut his first tooth until he was 15 mo. Yes, I understand all the questions going on in your head but statistics show that babys who cut their teeth later, have stronger teeth and healthier teeth. You should be happy. If you worry too much, talk to your peds at the one year apt.
My fist child was 18 months when he got his first tooth. My second was 12 months, my third was 19 months and my 6 month old has none now :) I wouldn't worry.
