My adult daughter and I are heading to NYC for a long weekend and don't want to miss any special Christmas type activities. It is our first time to go during the holiday season. (we have been there before) We have tickets to see the Rockettes and plan to go to Rockefeller Center and also plan to do some window shopping (and shopping) on Fifth Ave. Are there any other holiday favorites that we shouldn't miss while we are there? Thanks for your help.

Oh I'm so glad you're going to see the Rockettes at Radio City, soooo much fun!!!
Visit Macys on 34th street. Go ice skating in Central Park (you can do it at Rockefeller Center too but it's more crowded.) Have a nice Italian dinner in Little Italy, it will be decorated to the nines. Walk through St. Patrick's Cathedral.
I'm so jealous, I love NYC and haven't been there in over six years, have FUN!!!

Mamazita has it covered below. That will easily take you through a 3 day weekend. Be sure and have some of that AWESOME coffee they serve at the corner deli. (almost on each corner in NY).

Oh, and maybe go see a Broadway show!!!

Take a peek at Time Out New York magazine.

If you're in for a long weekend, all of the touristy things will be right in the Rockefeller Plaza/Times Square area. Go to the Top of the Rock or the Empire State. Hit FAO Shwartz, The M&M Store. Go to St. Patrick's.

Don't be shy about going to the outer boroughs for dinner. Astoria is awesome for Greek (Stamatis - YUMMM!!!) and Asian food. Brooklyn Heights has an amazing view of the skyline plus great food.

If you head downtown, do some shopping in SOHO and grab lunch in Chinatown (don't be afraid - Use YELP and you'll find a good one). Lots of fun shopping there, too. Visit the 9/11 memorial if you are up to it (I haven't felt up to it yet).

NYC will be a MADHOUSE over the next few weeks but it's a magical madhouse.

One other fun thing is to walk down 47th street between 6th and 7th - the Diamond District! So much fun.

Also, look up John's Pizza on West 44th (Pizza in an old converted church) and then stop by Schmackary's for cookies on 45th. YUM!!!

And of course, go see a play. Don't shy away from off-Broadway plays. They are awesome as well. Just not as elaborate. Cabaret is my all time favorite. Very adult and deep and so entertaining. Try to get tickets.

I could go on and on and on! Have fun!!!!

Here are some possibilities:

Are you a AAA member? Your local office may have info, but you can contact the office nearest your destination before your after your arrival. They'll have things like discount coupons too. If you are staying at a hotel (vs. with friends), the hotel concierge or from desk will probably have up to date info.

Have a great time!

Are you into art/ or xmas trees? the metropolitan museum of art on 82nd and 5th has one, as does the museum of natural history. Each can be nice.

How about a horse drawn carriage ride in central park?

Best,

Get tickets for "The Ride." Part theatre part tour. Very unique and very fun experience. Google it. Certainly there is carriage ride around Central Park, lunch at Tavern On The Green, a broadway show. If you download the app Today Tix you can get tix for great prices, walk up to Lincoln Center, macys (but that is always jam packed) see all the windows on 5th Avenue, ice skate at Rockefeller Center. St Patricks beautiful but undergoing major renovations.

Go to Bryant Park -Great shopping there. Also skating rink. Grand Central Station laser show on the ceiling. Fabulous show.

Just be careful. A lot of protests going on that are not necessarily peaceful.

Hope this helps. THE RIDE, in my opinion is a must do. Have fun.

If you can the 9/11 memorial and museum.

We've gone over Christmas, and I echo everyone's suggestions. I would also suggest stopping by Tavern on the Green. If you can do a meal there, it's just breathtaking decorations for the holiday. It can be pricey, so we skipped the meal, and just stopped in for a bit to take some pictures. So gorgeous!
