How exciting! Possibly 1st snow? Im guessing you will be in the city. The weather transition will be tough, so planning outdoors might be super cold for you guys. Lots of layers of clothing...Rockefeller center, museums, kids friendly broadway musical, hot chocolate at serendipity, Dylan' s candy bar. Do you have daughters? Lunch and tea at American doll. Ground zero, 5th avenue library. Are you referring to toys r us on 34th? It's not a big deal, unless you want to spend some time inside.

Central Park Zoo, Bronx Zoo, a Broadway play (if there are any OK for kids). A subway ride to anywhere. Kids love the subway, at least mine does. Coney Island is probably mostly closed up for the season, but IMO it's worth checking out anyhow. And pizza...eat lots of pizza :) Have fun!!

My mom was from New York. She always says there's nothing like Christmas in New York. What she said was stay in upstate NY where it's full of trees, and quiet beautiful scenery and then go into the city for outings to see Rockefeller Center, the Tree, Macys windows, Ice Skating, and shopping, then back to the country for peace and beauty.
