OK For 11 Month Old to Prefer Baby Food?

Hi everyone! My 11 month old currently eats and enjoys baby oatmeal, stage 3 fruits, veggies & dinners, & all kinds of juice. I have made several attempts to get her to eat table food, but she just doesn't want it - every time I try to give her something (bananas, mac & cheese, diced up ham & cheese, etc.) she either gags when she eats it, or won't eat it at all. I've even tried some of the Graduates foods, but the only thing she'll eat there are the crackers & cookies. She hates the meat sticks (I don't blame her, they stink!), and she might eat a few diced fruits but then she will turn her head away & clench her jaw.

I'm assuming I'm OK giving her the baby food for the time being, so long as I keep introducing her to table foods. I have found one thing she likes - grilled cheese sandwiches. Has anyone else ever dealt with this, and if so do you know of any tricks I can use to make table eating fun for her?

Thanks for your help!

So What Happened?

Thanks for the advice everyone - I really appreciate it! For the time being I am still giving her Stage 3 baby food but at the same time still introducing table food to her. Like everyone said, I'm sure she'll eventually develop a taste for it! I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving - maybe some real Thanksgiving food will sway her opinion!

My daughter did that when she was 11 months old to. I just gave her stage 3 foods then started giving her hot dogs and she loves grilled cheese sandwhiches to. Try giving her the microwaveable meals chefboyrde i don't remember how to spell it. My daughter liked them. I know have to mix her veggies in with her foodd though so she can get her vegtables.

My son went through that. He's a year now. They eventually get over it. I think sometimes table food needs a little more chewing and when they are teething it hurts sometimes to chew. He went through a stage where he didn't want anything that had to be chewed-I couldn't find anything he liked besides pureed fruits and veges. I too tried mac and cheese and he'd snub his nose at it-and he gaged a lot too. I just kept offering foods to him. I know it's frustrating(you feel like you're wasting food), but she'll eventually come around. He likes mac and cheese now and he'll eat mashed sweet potatoes and acorn squash(with his hands-loves to feed himself). I'm still not sure how to feed him meat(he only has two teeth). His doctor said not to worry about it. I give him about 16 oz of toddler formula just to make sure he gets his vitamins and iron. Good Luck and hang in there.

My daughter is almost 19 months. She STILL will not eat chunky fruit. It has to be pureed. She eats most everything else in cut up pieces, but she won't do fruit. It very strange to me, but I just keep buying her the pureed fruit and she eats lots of applesauce. No worries! Your daughter will be just fine to eat baby food for awhile.

I'd say she's eating, let her eat. My nephew is eating step 3, and the gerber graduates and he's almost 15 months old...Just starting to like table food. Each child is different.

I don't know how much longer you will be albe to keep her on baby food and she will be full. My first thought is it is probable a texture thing. A lot of kids are so used to baby food being a certain texture and then we introduce all of this new food, and they resist. I know it is a pain, but have you tried mixing all of her food in a blender or food processor to make it creamy. You can control the consistancy of it and she will eat whatever you are eating. I had to do this with my son (granted he is disabled and couldn't eat anything any other way), but a friend of mine who has a "typical" child also had to do this because he would only eat baby food and after about 2 months he ate table food.
Good Luck

kids will start eating table food when they are ready. i think sometimes is is a sensory thing. they just are not ready for that texture of food. i would keep introducing table food to her but as long as she is getting her nutrition that is all that matters. you might also just try to introduce pureying( don't know if that is spelled right). so she gets the taste of it but the texture is softer( like baby food). my four year old has always had issues with this. sometimes oatmeal and yogurt and bananas consist of his food for the day. we have always struggles with this. my 18 month old eats everything. he cannot see any food with out eating it.. but one thing i have learned you cannot force them to eat what you want them to eat. it does not work. they will when they are ready you just have to get creative. i give him oatmeal with pureyed strawberries and sometimes veggies and he does not know the difference.

i lot of babies have some trouble with table foods at 1st. i think it's a texture thing...just trying mashing them up a little more. but don't give up...it takes lots of attempts to get a baby to like new things.

I went through the same thing you are now. My son is now 15 months old and still eating Gerber fruit and veggies. I supplement with any "real" food he'll eat - bananas, apples, cheese slices, quesadillas, yogurt, applesauce, etc. I actually like that he eats the fruit and veggies so easily so I know he is getting great nutrition. He is starting to prefer the food we eat so don't worry your daughter will get there.

My son would not even touch regular food until he was 14 months old. He is now a very healthy 7 yr old. Dont worry. Kids do things at thier own pace.

Feeding her baby food is perfectly fine as long as she's eating something. She's gaging on the food because she's not ready yet. My son breastfeed for 21/2 years. All he had for the first year was breast milk he would not eat any food and the doctor said he was fine. After the first year he ate chips and salad along with nursing him. She knows what she wants and in time she will change if she's getting her tummy full there's nothing to worry about. My daughter is 11mo. old her birthday is Sunday and she don't eat anything but oatmeal with pears and cinnamon, flavored baby water, and breast milk and she's very healthy. Good luck!
