Does anyone know of a great Orthodontist in the Sacramento area? My kids are all going to need braces so I need someone cheap, but know what they are doing. I am willing to travel a little bit too!
Thanks!

My son was deathly afraid of going to the dentist. The first dental office wanted him to miss a series of Fridays at school so they could sedate him to work on him. If that didn't work, they wanted to send us to the hospital so that he could be worked on under general anesthesia. I don't think so - isn't your job to get him comfortable enough to work on him.

I found Folsom Pediatric Dental office. I cried after the first appointment because the office was so warm, inviting and comforting. They explain everything to the kids. There are TVs overhead so the kids aren't so focused on what is going on in their mouth. The staff lets you go back to sit with your kids if you want to. They can sedated (give a gas through the nose that only affects the kids while they are there) the kids to make their gag reflex (which my son has a very strong one) relax.

We have not used their ortho services yet, but have had two consults - in which they have not charged us a penny for.

I can't tell you how much I love them. We live in Citrus Heights so it is about a 45 minute drive in traffic but it is worth it for my son and daughter to be so comfortable with their dentists.

I am not sure where you live but we see Dr. John Oshetski behind the Walmart on Elk Grove Blvd in Elk Grove. I had to get braces at the same time as my 9 year old daughter and he was great to both of us. I am extremly impressed and plan to take all of my children to him in the future.

Hi D.,
Check out my profile to see my dental experience. The orthodontist I would see personally is Dr. Michael Payne on American River Drive near Watt Avenue. He is VERY good and if my daughter needs braces we will be seeing him. Ortho can be damaging if it isn't done carefully. I have seen cases where the teeth were moved TOO quickly and it caused permanent root damage. I always caution people to stay away from the cheapest dentists as you get what you pay for in most cases.
Sincerely,
L.

Hello D.,
I actually didn't get braces until I was 40. My Orthodontist was Vic Vicari on scripps drive. He is extremely polite & makes you feel comfortable. I thought his prices were reasonable. Good Luck

Hi D.,

My kids see Dr Stamos in Fair Oaks and have Dr Musser ans their dentist. They happen to be in the same complex - both are FABULOUS! My youngest son has had a lot of challenges with his upper teeth and these two are so great that he has no fears and gets his work done with no issues whatsoever.

Prices are reasonable - treatment of parents is fabulous. Dr Stamos is very thorough and explains everything you need to know and give you all options available and lets the parent make the final choice - with no judgment. Unlike some I've been to in the past... They have a great program for the kids...each time they come in if they are on time, have brushed their teeth and behave well they get a wooden nickel. Kids save up the wooden nickels to earn prizes...and the prizes are pretty cool!

His phone number is ###-###-#### for the fair Oaks office, and looking at our appt reminder it looks like he has a Sacramento Office too...###-###-####. If you go - tell him J. the Lactation Consultant sent you...He knows who I am. :)

Warmly,

We took our son to Dr. Ronald L. Otto, 125-B Ascot Drive, Roseville, CA ###-###-####. Our neighbor girls and several of their friends also went to Dr. Otto. I don't thnk he was particularly cheap, but since we had dental insurance, which paid for around half of the costs, it wasn't too bad. If you don't already have dental insurance, you might want to look into getting one that covers orthodontics before you get started. Before you decide on a provider a long distance from your home, consider that when braces first go on, it is not unusual to have adjustments every couple of weeks and the appointments right after school fill up quickly.

Our son got braces in second grade because some of his permanent teeth were positioned to come in behind his front teeth. Ever since second grade he has been in either braces or a retainer, but he now has a wonderful smile. He is in college now, and Dr. Otto was able to refer him to a specialist where he goes to school because it is too far away to make trips home for appointments. Be advised that you may need to do a second round of braces when your children are older, especially the boys, because their jaws keep growing. This growth impacts their bite. Our son, who is 22, just came out of his second set of braces to correct his bite, but the specialist was able to avoid a common practice used to correct an underbite which is having the jaw broken and bone removed.
