Our Little Nudist...

Okay, so this may be a little silly but I am sure if anyone has a little girl getting toward this age you are quite possibly dealing with this too..

My niece has decided that she is very apt to the ideals of being a roaming nudist! She is about 19 months now, so she is getting close to being in the terrible 2's though her grandmother and I both believe she is already there. She is now in the habit of stripping down during her nap time to nothing but her little shirts. My sister has done the whole deal of trying diaper covers, shorts, and pants. Earlier this afternoon when she, my sister, left to pick up our mother from work she got home to see her little one in her crib with her diaper and diaper cover tossed out and the little one just grinning from ear to ear. Now I will admit she is the cutest thing and it is sooo funny but its getting to be a hassle for her because the little one isn't potty trained yet so she ends up wetting the crib because she doesn't have the diaper on. Does anyone have any other ideas of ways to try and keep her cloths on?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

LOL, thanks for all the responses. She has only done it a couple of time in all and its only when her diaper is really really ... My mother bought her her own little potty with some reward point she got at work (she works at a bank) and she has used the potty once.. its just keeping after her mommie to keep it up and take her to the potty more often (we all know how much fun it is trying to help a sibling take care of their kid when they seem to think that they know EVERYTHING there is to know) But anyway she .is doing well.. definitely into the "Terrible Two's" but we are managing

Hi T.,

Oh my gosh!! My daughter went through a similar phase, but I just got really firm about her keeping the diaper on. I just did not want to deal with constant accidents. It was totally hysterical and cute and I had to do all I could from showing it because I knew that if she sensed I thought it was funny she would keep doing it. She would try removing her diaper as soon as I would put it on and I would just be firm and kept re-doing the tabs (I wish I had heard the trick about putting the diaper on backwards - what a great idea!!) and telling her in a serious voice that it needed to stay on. If she did manage to get it off while sleeping, I again just tried to stay serious - not mad, but just clean up any mess, put the diaper back on and move on. I don't know if my approach really did any good, but she did eventually get over it.

Have you tried pull-ups? Maybe if you tell her they are special and for "Big Girls" only, she would want to keep those on??? Let her pick them out at the store with you, too.

Good luck!!!!!

L.

The advice you ladies have mentioned is wonderful and even gave me a giggle (thanks)! My little angel has recently realized that she can wiggle out of her diaper. Nothing more than that so far. Thanks to your helpful comments, I'll be prepared! Good luck with your cousin!

Have you tried putting the diaper on backwards? My son was doing this a few months back....and that was the only trick that actually worked! Once his shorts came off....he couldn't find those darned tabs to pull open the diaper! Best of luck to you!! This too shall pass!!!!

My 2 two year old twins went through this phase for about a month. I swear I was washing sheets left and right and our water bill went up every time they went down for a nap or to bed. We started off by putting onsies on them and that worked for a day or two before they started pulling their diapers off through a leg hole. We also tried putting their diapers on backwards like the other mom suggested, that worked for a while too but they eventually wiggled out of them too. We started using pull ups during their naps and telling them they were big boy underwear and that slowed them down somewhat. At night we made sure that they wore a one piece pj or the two piece pj where the shirt snaps to the pants. The phase lasted maybe two months at the most, I know that sounds long but once it passed it passed and we haven't had a problem since. I hope this helps.

My sister in law had a similar issue. She resolved to putting on skin tight bathing suits and layering her daughters clothes with a onsie then an outift. Her daughter eventually got tired of fighting to get everything off. It was actually quite humurous because every time we saw her for several months she always had a bathing suit on under her clothes.

We went through this with my now 4 year old daughter at about the same age. Nothing worked except for dressing her in one piece rompers that snapped or tied, etc around the neck area meaning the ones that snap up on one shoulder. She couldn't figure out how to get out of these and eventually outgrew this little habit. Not sure where you are, but I found mine at the Children's Place outlet store in Ellenton. Good luck.

HAHAHAHA...Sorry T., I'm not laughing at YOU. Because of how cute kids can be, you sometimes can't help but laugh. I know all too well about the diaper thing. I have 2 1/2 year old twins who are now fully potty trained and have been since 2 months after they turned 2. I went through the same thing with my girls. It was so frustrating because I had 2 cribs to change ALL THE TIME because of them taking off their diapers. What I ended up doing was going out and buying masking tape. Whenever they would take a nap or go down for the night, I would tape them from hip to hip. I wouldn't go all aroud the waste and I NEVER made it tight. Anyway, it worked. They couldn't get the tape off....LOL. After a while of them getting used to NOT taking their diapers off, I would maybe not tape them for nap time. It was kind of like weening them off of it...LOL. Anyway, GOOD LUCK!! Let me know how it turns out.

Hi T.,
Two things:
1) She may be ready to start potty training so y'all may want to see what she thinks about the potty. And...
2) This is going to sound weird, but tape the diaper on. You can use duck or masking tape and as long as you only get it on the diaper and not the child it doesn't hurt them. My 2 year old had started this thing where she paints her walls with her dirty diapers when left in her room longer than she wants to be in there and some moms on here suggested the tape. It's wonderful, though it can be a pain for you to get the diaper off.
Hope this helps,
D.

Boys go through this stage too!! When my oldest was about 14 months he started taking his diapers off from under his clothes and we would have no idea he did this. Then we would pick him up and he would be soaked. So after a couple of weeks of duct taping diapers to him I started putting pullups and onesies or overalls on him all the time until he finally just outgrew the stage. They can't pull the diaper off cause of the onesie and they can't take the pullup off cause most of them aren't the velcro like diapers. Unless you get huggies then just don't let her see you take them off!!

I think that is pretty normal, my 19 month old does like to take off her pj's in the morning. It may also be a sign that she is ready for some preliminary potty training, she can already undress herself, that is great! I would just put a rubber sheet on the crib. She will grow out of it.
