Overnight Diapers Vs. Overnight Pull-ups for My 2 Yr. Old Son

My son just turned 2 1/2 and is not potty trained yet. Every single boy in the family has taken a long time to be trained :( and it appears to be true for my son as well. Anyway, the overnight diapers we use are too small and the largest size they come in is a 5; he wears a 6 during the day. More times than not he wakes in the morning with a dirty diaper, not just wet. I have never used pull-ups before, will they hold in poop as well as a regular diaper does? Just wondering if a night time pull-up is our answer. Thanks ladies.

What can I do next?

Hi G.,
I have a 2 1/2 year old boy as well and he has not started potty training...once in a while he goes on the toilet, but he's not ready and I'm not pushing it. My son wears size 6 diapers during the day and 3t-4t overnight pullups at night. He has not had accidents with the pullups, but we did have that issue a couple of times with the diapers (which is why we started using the pullups at night).

Anyway, I hope this helps.
All the best, R.

Overnight diapers are made in a size 6. I do not think pull ups hold enough liquid for overnight. That has been my experience, and I have seen size 7 diapers somewhere-probably Target, that is usually where I buy diapers.

Hello G.. My son is also 2 1/2. He is somewhere in the middle of his potty training I would say. I put him in regular diapers at night (kirkland, costco's house brand). The reason I don't think I would put him in pull-ups overningt is that pull-ups dont wick away the moisture like regular diapers do. I understand that children are supposed to "feel" when they wet themselves in pull-ups as they train, but at this point in the training, you don't want them to have to sleep in their wetness. Just my two cents worth.

We found that waiting until 3 yrs was a better time. Otherwise you end up potty training for a year, and that's no fun. Also there's a book "Potty Training in 1 Day", I used it and it was very successful.

Yes, they work. I go up a size for my daughter if they are at night. I recommend the Huggies brand pull ups over the Pampers Easy ups because they have break away tabs which are CRUCIAL for poopies!! You don't want to have to pull down a diaper with poop in it and get it all over his legs.

I've also had good luck with Luvs for night time diapers. They seem to be better than regular diapers.

My vote is for the Huggies brand pull-ups. It took my son 6 months to potty train, but having him feel wet when he woke up and or poopy helped him to understand what the potty was for.
I also put a training potty in his bedroom - this helped him remember where it was if he woke in the middle of the night.

If you put the potty in the room those chairmats that go under office chairs work wonders for occasional misses.

BTW - boys do train slower than girls, I read it online somewhere - it has to do with maturity. I wouldn't worry about his age - a friend told me when I was concerned - you never see someone graduate college in diapers.
