hi everyone.. I have a question and no Dr can figure it out for me. I get a stabbling pain in my right side that lasts for hrs. It comes on everyday and worse now that I am pregnant. I had my gallbladder out so it's not that. If I press on it, It kills. They gave me a pain killer once, but it doesn't work for long. ANYONE have these symptoms?

What can I do next?

You could look up Diverticulitis. I was having sharp pains on my left side, but I understand it can be anywhere. There were worse later in the afternoon after I had eaten and then continued through the evening. Mornings were always okay. If that is what it is, diet changes will help.
Good luck to you.

Well, I was gonna say gall bladder, but since it's removed I dont know. I have heard that you can have phantom pains tho... and that might be what it is.
Make your doc earn his money.
Write in to Dr Oz and see if you can get an answer from him at his website.
The pain killer route is not a good place to be, they cause so many other problems. Have them do a good check on your liver, maybe a scan.... Pain killers are very bad for your liver. If you have pain during digestion, it could be liver related or diverticulitis. JMO... I'm totally not a doc.

Even if you had a gallbladder out you can still get stones that form from the bile the liver produces. The gallbladder was just the storage sac that the liver dumped the bile into so it was the usual culprit for stones and pain. I've also had my gallbladder out and I try and eat a diet low in fats so I can prevent bile dumping. It's really terrible. To quote a website about gallbladder surgery:

"One of the side effects of gallbladder removal can be the dumping of bile which is now not as easily regulated and can send someone running to the bathroom immediately after eating. A more common side effect is a decrease in the secretion of bile. If the bile produced by the liver becomes thick and sluggish, painful symptoms and bile stones can occur. Bile stones can form in the liver as well as the gallbladder. One woman had her gallbladder removed only to end up back in surgery again two or three days later where they found stones in the bile ducts of the liver causing her a lot of pain."

So if you're still having pains in generally the same area. Get an ultrasound to check for stones in your liver or ducts. You also may need to drastically alter your diet to prevent bile sludge in the future.

Could be endometriosis. I had abdominal pains and a tender abdomen with it. The only way to know for sure is thru laproscopic surgery.

I had kidney stones with both of my pregnancies. The pain shot through my back and side to the front. They told me it was not uncommon for pregnant women to get them. Did they check for kidney stones?

Every day? You should have been checked out for everything long ago -- appendicitis (yes, there is a type that can linger and doesn't send you to the hospital instantly, but you're getting poisoned from inside); kidney stones; muscular problems; cysts or tumors on your ovary.... Get to a doctor first thing (even the ER if you must) and demand that someone keep you until they diagnose this. You have too much to lose, especially if you are pregnant. This could be nothing and easily treatable; it could be something very serious. Get aggressive with the doctors and insist that you will not leave until this is diagnosed. This level of pain daily? No way.

Ditto Becky S. - get checked for kidney stones. I had one with my first pregnancy and thought I would die from the pain. They are horrible when you're not pregnant, but when you are, they can be even worse depending where they are and how the baby/uterus is affecting your urinary tract. Feel better soon!

This seems so obvious but did they check out your appendix?

I hope someone can figure it out for you. I did have a pain like that for maybe a year, no one ever figured it out. Drove me crazy and really stressed me out. If I were you, I would keep pursuing answers and make sure they've checked you for the things mentioned by other posters (especially since you are pregnant). But just wanted you to know that I had the same thing and it ended up going away. Good luck.

Does it feel like scissors are trying to cut out of you? That is the type of pain I have and it is a mixture of a few things. 1st my liver does not get the proper amount of blood so it spazzes on me, which is like the feeling of a boxer being slugged in the liver by his opponent. 2nd I have scar tissue from having my gallbladder removed and that moving around gives a great amount of pain. Because the medical field cannot do anything about my pain, I go to a Natureopath who has me on medicine for my liver and I have to go in for treatments every week or I won't be able to even move.

I assume they checked your appendix? I had to have mine removed and it is stabbing pain in my right side. You might also consider drinking more water and drop ANY sodas or sugar drinks (to include juice). Your kidneys might just be reacting to a need for more clear fluid to keep them running right.

Good luck!

Hi--
Is it on your right side? Even though you had your gall bladder out, it doesn't mean you don't still have a lot of gall stones in your liver (that's actually where they are made). I'd recommend extra magnesium while your pregnant, then a cleanse afterward.
