This is pretty random but I'm curious. Every other day or so my daughter comes home from preschool with an art project that is somehow snow or winter related. Today she brought home a tissue paper snowflake, last week she made a snowman and a winter scene with snow and 'naked' trees. She also made a bird feeder to feed the winter birds. Strangely, we have had a very warm winter thus far. It is 55 degrees today and it has only snowed 3 times. So, if you live in an area where it doesn't snow or only snows a little bit a few times a year, do your children still make snowmen crafts and cutout snowflakes? What are your little one's most recent art projects?
My daughter is in kindergarten and they still make winter themed items to bring home. Just because it is sunny and warm all the time doesn't mean they can't learn about snow and wintery sceens from other places.
I live in Texas, and we've had NO winter this year. We've not had one single hard freeze. And yes, both my girls still do the winter crafts, but they love it. They've both come home with snow flakes and penguins with winter hats on, and snowmen & christmas trees covered in snow. They're so proud of all of their art projects, though. If I even attempt to throw one iota of surplus art in the garbage, I get chastised!
Yep. It's currently 70 degrees and sunny here in Texas. My son brought home a snowman picture yesterday. The theme earlier this month was winter and snow, so I imagine it's from that.
yes. I assume the art projects are meant to reinforce what they are teaching in the classroom - such as the seasons - even though what's going on outside doesn't seem to match up with our current weather.
Like others who have posted, I am also basking in 70 degree weather in Texas, and my youngest son also brings home wintery projects. It makes me long for colder weather. We haven't had any sort of winter this year. I'm hoping February will cool off at least a little.
We are in Tx and it's been a very warm winter. However, the curriculum I teach is calling for us to learn about the seasons for the first 1/2 of Jan. so there were lots of snowflakes, etc. and we just finished up learning about Arctic animals, so they made lots of polar bears, penguins, etc. So I'm sure that what they are bringing home comes from what they are learning about. I is for icles, P is for polar bear, etc.
It's 68 today (San Antonio, Texas) with clouds. My son brought home a snowman on Monday from Pre-K. He is also talking about penguins and the North and South Pole.

I grew up near San Francisco and remember doing those kinds of winter crafts. We currently live in TX and get very little snow, but my kids did snowmen and snowflakes. We mostly got them just before and after the winter break though and haven't seen any come home for a couple of weeks.
Wierd, I thought it was just left over from the holidays! My third grader has come home this week with snowflakes and a big picture of a penguin with snowflakes and a winter poem, and a snowman made of a collage of santas. We have to drive a few hours to get to the snow! I thought, it would have been nice to get this BEFORE the holidays, I could have hung them up for decorations! I didn't think to ask him WHEN he made them, but I will and see what he says. =)
My son doesn't do a lot of art projects at school, but a mitten and snowman have come home recently and here at home we've been going through my supply of winter crafts and making snowmen, penguins, snowflakes. We put photos of him playing in the snow or dressed in his winter gear from the past years in our picture frames as part of our jan/feb house decor. It was 68 in Kansas City today. He wore flip-flops yesterday. I figure if it's not cold/snowy outside (and seriously, NOT complaining!) it can be wintery inside.
LOL! Yes, they do all sorts of snow related crafts! Last week my son brought home a snowman. The average winter day temperature her is in the 60's.
