Anyone use a specific program to make a password list for their spouse? This is a list of all of our important usernames and passwords for bank accounts, utilities, etc. Any recommendations of programs to use? Or, did you just type up a word document and then stick it in the safe?

Thanks!

credit card password happy0808 (I didn't put the cc name b/c we only have 1)

At christmas time at Hallmark they had little spiral bound booklets for sale that were password books. each page had a line for
company / website
user name
password
and answers to the security questions. I bought one for us and keep it in my desk. I got really tired of not being able to do stuff online and on the phone because the stuff was scattered everywhere lol.

I send them to him and him to me on our Yahoo email accounts. We might put them in a folder or something so we can access them in the future if we need to more easily.

This way we can access them from even our phones. We have a constant updated list if needed.

This is good because yahoo is online, not on the computer or a thumb drive. If we have internet access we have access to the list of those needed things.

We also have more information this way in case one of us passes away unexpectedly.

We keep ours in the contacts list on our computer. Not super-secure, probably, but I can't imagine people wanting to log in to the electric company to pay our bills for us or anything... When it comes to passwords for credit cards and the like, my husband uses one specific password, and I use a specific one, and we have those memorized. They aren't written down anywhere.

I just keep ours in the rolodex on our desk here at home. I find it easier to flip open the rolodex than to open a new tab/program every time I need to punch in a username or password.

I keep a journal of passwords. If I kept them on the computer and the computer crashed, then they would be of no use to me. And I don't go to the trouble of typing it up -- I change passwords frequently and add new accounts often, so to type and print each time there is a change would be a pain. So I keep a journal on a shelf near the computer. Not in a safe -- that would, of course, be the safest thing to do, but it would also be extremely inconvenient. To find the particular journal would take forever and we have an alarm system, so I don't think it's location is a problem.

I have an excel document with the type / website or location / user name / password / account info.

It's password protected, ironically, and on our desktop. But it's just MyfirstnameHisfirstname... which I know breaks ALL password rules. But then I can make the other ones more complicated and I can change them alot without worrying about it. Instead of the "favorites" to keep the website link, I just go into the spreadsheet and click on the link.

At work, however, we use something called "Password Vault" which stores and changes your passwords at various intervals and then automatically enters them. You only have to remember ONE username, which we change every 90 days. I don't really like it.

ETA - we back everything up on a "time capsule" which is basically a 2nd hard drive. Forgot to add that...... Yes, if we just kept it on our desktop that wouldn't be good :-)

Our passwords to all financials, etc are not written down. They are memorized.

We just memorize our important ones...all the rest we just e-mail to each other, like the username and password to get into paying bills like the electric company, etc. Or we just call and ask what it is if we need one.

~My husband is a computer genius for a living and he has a specific system for his passwords that he has set up and he memorizes all of his...never writes them down. I am the one that sets up our bank info and bill info, so I have a master list in a folder in my e-mail account.

There's an app for that! Seriously. My husband has one on his iPhone & I'm sure you could get one if you have another type of Smartphone. I have the same app on my iPhone but I use a very sophisticated system: all written down on little pieces of paper, put in an envelope & tacked on the corkboard by our computer. ;)
