I took the pill for pcos and it's a temporary fix. When I went off of it I didn't have a period for 6 months. After a few years of dealing with irratic periods I went to a midwife who tested my iodine levels and they were low. I took iodine supplements for 2 years and that helped a lot. Then I went off of that and got some hormone testing done. I started taking progesterone (pills at first and then natural bio identical cream) for two years. Now I take nothing and my cycles and weight are regulated.
With pcos the key is finding balance. Balance in your hormones and balance in your eating. Watch your sugar, a diet like south beach will help you more than low calorie.
Do some research and find a dr that listens to what you want.
Good luck!
