So What Happened?

thanks for all the advice- I ended up grabbing some STORE BRAND white icing and STORE BRAND peanut butter and throwing them in a bowl (a little less than quarter cup peanut butter) - to taste and mixing it together with my hand mixer and then chilling it for about 1-2 hours and then using it to ice the cake - and it worked REALLY good! had a lot of positive comments - including from my 88year old grandmother!! thats what i will be doing in the future - too easy not too! (everyone said it tasted homemade)

Thanks again!

S.,
This is the one i use for on top of brownies and chocolate cupcakes, its pretty simple and yummy !

1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup creamy peanut butter
3 tablespoons milk, or as needed
2 cups confectioners' sugar

DIRECTIONS
Place the butter and peanut butter into a medium bowl, and beat with an electric mixer. Gradually mix in the sugar, and when it starts to get thick, incorporate milk one tablespoon at a time until all of the sugar is mixed in and the frosting is thick and spreadable. Beat for at least 3 minutes for it to get good and fluffy

i've made cupcakes before with peanut butter icing. the easiest way to do it is to mix vanilla icing and peanut butter together.

I use whipped peanut butter and just add powdered sugar to taste. I do this in a kitchen aide mixer and it takes roughly 2 minutes. I found adding butter will make it too oily. This has worked for me. Good luck.

Hi S.,

Not sure if this as easy as you are looking for but sounds yummy...From Ina Garten's book:
1-cup confectioners' sugar
1-cup creamy peanut butter
5-tablespoons unsaled butter (room temp)
3/4-teaspoon vanilla
1/4-teaspoon salt
1/3-cup heavy cream

Mix the sugar, peanut butter, butter, vanilla and salt in a bowl on medium-low speed until creamy. Add the cream and beat on high speed until the mixture is light and smooth.

Good Luck!
C.

Here is a recipe that is simple and easy:
1 jar of skippy natural peanut butter or smuckers natural(I have found both work well)
1 lb confectioner's sugar
Mix until lumpy with an electric mixer
Add 1 lb(4 sticks) of butter(NOT margerine)
Mix until smooth.
Good luck!

I love PB Icing! All I do is make basic white icing (or you could used store bought icing) and add PB out of the jar until it tastes Peanut Buttery enough. My guess is that it probably takes 1/2c of PB. Mmm Yummy!

You could add PB to fluff and mix in the blender. Skip the milk, it's likely to separate and look gross.

My mother makes a peanut butter icing. I believe it is a half stick of butter, a cup of peanut butter, mixed with about 2 cups of powdered sugar until smooth. She beats those together and then adds a teaspoon of vanilla and a couple of Tablespoons of milk. If it is too dry add a little more milk.

Hope this helps.

I've seen Ina Gartner/Barefoot Contessa make it on her show on the Food Network. You may want to do a google search. I don't recall it being too labor intensive. Good Luck and Enjoy!

I've been making it for years without a recipe. Start with a one pound box of confectioner's sugar. Add a maybe a cup or so of peanut butter and some milk. Just adjust to your taste. I don't make it in advance because of all the oil in the peanuts. Maybe butter stabilizes it, but it also changes the flavor.
For future reference, you can try lots of flavors the same way. Most boxes have a basic buttercream recipe that you can adapt, for say, mocha or something. Just have fun with it!
Good luck

Hi S.,

I found this recipe on-line for pb&j icing. I'm sure you could just delete the jelly from it.

PB & J Frosting

* 1 - container whipped vanilla frosting
* 1/2 - cup creamy peanut butter
* 2 to 4 - Tablespoons grape jelly
