My son is on the Autism Spectrum Disorder and I'm having a hard time finding a pediatrician that is on the same page as I am. Another problem is that my son is on Medicaid because I am a single mom finishing my nursing degree. So trying to find quality that will accept his heath insurance... yeah right!

My kids see a great pediatrician. Her name is Dr. Michelle Johnson-Towsen. Her practice is Pediatric Place located at 1338 W. Fletcher at the Grand Oaks Plaza. ###-###-####. She does take medicaid. My kids have been patients of hers for 5 years. She is totally wonderful. Her staff is awesome. The place is definitely kid friendly.

Pediatric Healthcare Alliance of Citrus Park. They are great and they do take Medicaid. My kids are on Medicaid and I go there. I think Dr Anton there is knowlegeable because I had someone tell me that my son had Pragmatic Disorder (part of Autisic Spectrum) I went to talk to him and he said no don't let the school classify him as such because he only had a speech delay. Not many have heard the term but he knew what Pragmatic Disorder was and weather my son had this.

They are few and far between and unfortunately most are not receptive to the suggestions and treatments out there to assist the children and families impacted by Autism. The DAN (Defeat Autism Now) doctor network is the best community to seek a physician. Dr. David Berger is a fabulous ped Doctor in the DAN network. He is here in Tampa on Bearss. Wholistic Peds ###-###-####. He is very busy due to the lack of DAN doctors in the area to support the Autism impacted population. He is wonderful! Also...have had a dear friend with unbelievable success using the NAET Treatment protocol. Her son is 6 and nearly 90% normal functionality - thanks to his mother's perserverance and hard work! It takes a lot of effort, time and money that we generally don't have, but down the road....it is worth the life they are given back at a different level to share with you and the families impacted. God bless you MAMA and hang in there! HE is a lucky little boy to have you!!

My 4 1/2 year old daughter also has Autism. If you are interested in trying the biomedical or DAN! protocol, Dr. Berger would be the one to see. We saw him for about a year. His bedside manner is good and he seems very knowledgable, but none of his recommended treatments helped my daughter. I'm sure they do help lots of kids, but they didn't work for us. Be forewarned that the treatments are expensive and he does not take insurance. You can file a claim and be reimbursed at your out of network rate.

If you're looking for a more mainstream pediatrician, we see Dr. Canody and really like her. The # is ###-###-####.
