Period After Weaning

I was just reading the request about getting your period while breastfeeding, but I'm actually having the opposite problem. I have been nursing for 10 months, and would like to get pregnant again but have not gotten my period yet. I introduced formula at 1 month, and have weaned down to 1-2 feedings a day with the goal to be finished completely in two weeks. How long after weaning did it take other mom's to get their period/fertility back? I'm sad I can't continue to nurse, but it's time for a little brother/sister!

What can I do next?

I nursed my son for 14 months. Within 30 days of stopping, my cycle started again. Hope this helps.

Hi A. - I breastfed for about a month and a half when I just gave up since my milk just wasn't coming in. I got my period about 2 months after stopping. However, I have heard that it can take as long as a year for it to come back...I think it really just depends on your body and what it is ready for.

They say that ideally, you should wait at least 1 year before trying to get pregnant again. The body, post-pregnancy, takes about 1 year to re-adjust back to normal. This is per my OB/GYN as well. If you are stopping breastfeeding in order to get pregnant... this is your choice, and you need to figure out which priority you want. But ideally, they say that breastfeeding for 1 year is the best for a baby....lots of Moms breastfeed even longer than this.
Everyone is different in terms of getting their period back. I got my period back even though I was breastfeeding exclusively, with both my children.
You should consult your OB/GYN with your concerns about wanting to get pregnant again. He/she is the only one who would know your health history etc.
Also be sure that you want another baby now... versus waiting. Are you in a "rush" to get pregnant again for other reasons such as age or otherwise, or you want your children to be a certain age spread in relation to each other? It's a personal choice... just make sure you are sure. Each woman is different and personal. I wish you the best and good luck,

I'm not sure if you are aware, but it is possible to get pregnant while nursing...even if you aren't having your period. My doctor put me on bc while I was nursing so that I would not get pregnant. I wouldn't be too worried about it.
