I like taking our own christmas card photos, DD is 6 missing her "Two" front teeth, and DD is 8. and just got his braces.

Other than maybe just a black and white close up of their smiles, or maybe a close up in Santa hats, Can you suggest any cute Poses??

I don't really mean Posed poses, but you get some awesome photos by having the right set up. So i'm looking for some ideas on cute set ups or props

To get you thinking, one year i wrapped them in christmas lights, one year they were in their wool coats with a pine tree in the background, and last year they were laying head to head on our green carpet with their santa hats on laughting their heads off.

Thanks.

What can I do next?

focus on the teeth! Put them in Santa hats, give them each a dental mirror, & have them pose holding those mirrors & smiling HUGE! The caption would be: "All smiles for Santa"....."Smiling for Santa"...."It's the Season to Smile". An excellent way to commemorate their milestones this year!

I know you didn't ask for posed poses, but the best feedback we ever got was three years ago. I have two boys that are 6 years apart in age, so they were 4 and 10 at the time. We always take pictures of them in pajamas in front of our Christmas tree, but we wanted to do something different. Our youngest stood on his head, and our oldest stood behind him holding his feet. They were just messing around, but it ended up being the cutest picture. I posted the picture as my profile pictue here. :)

I do the same thing with our cards, but I tend to get more action shots rather than poses - sometimes the photo ends up being from the winter before, but typically nobody seems to really notice. If I get a great Christmasy/wintery shot, and it's going to be within a year, I will use it (obviously when my daughter was a baby and a toddler they were current but as kids get older, they usually don't look THAT different from one year to the next - at least my stepsons didn't). In the past, for example, I've done:

1. Stepsons in front of the tree with presents, in their pajamas on Christmas morning
2. Stepsons playing shepherds in the church Christmas play
3. Stepsons snow-tubing with dad
4. Stepsons playing in the snow during a snow storm
5. Stepsons in front of the Christmas tree and skating rink at Rockefeller Center
6. Stepsons helping chop down our Christmas tree
7. Daughter looking up the fireplace for Santa
8. Daughter riding on the cart with the Christmas tree we just chopped down
9. Daughter sledding down the hill

Maybe if you get lucky enough to get some snow, you can try for them making snow angels or posed with a snowman in front of your house.

Just put them in some cute sweaters and let um play in a pile of leaves and you'll catch the perfect shot.
I've never liked posed pictures.

We did one a few years ago of my husband and I kissing and our daughter with her hands over her eyes embarrased. It was hillarious. Everyone loved it.

I always, let my kids pose themselves.... and it always comes out great. Kids are very creative.
We do, together shots, and of them individually.
You can also make a 'collage' type photo or photo card... thereby not only 'having to' use only ONE photo of your kids.

Are the sites I have used, to do photo Christmas cards. And both companies were great and it turned out great.

MY DIL just sent me some really cute pictures of her and my granddaughter laying on the ground that is covered in beautiful leaves, it's a really cool picture. Id post it but my picture editor link doesnt work. The camera is directly above them, so it's like they are looking into the sky.

Two years ago....my mom had my daughter and my nieces pictures taken together. My daughter was 7 and in the picture, she was listening as her older cousin had her hand up to her ear acting like she was telling her a secret!! It was sooo cute. My mom got many compliments on it and there was a crowd watching the girls poseing!!

I say do what makes them laugh and that will capture the "smiles" you are looking for. Catch them being silly or dress them up how you want and make them giggle. We have always done our own Christmas cards and it just seems to happen naturally. The laughing natural photos are always the best ones. :)

Go outside. I know it's cold out but our best pictures are in natural daylight, any time of year.
