You can get a toddler pillow at Bed Bath and Beyond (probably other places as well). My guys didn't get a pillow until about 2 years old.

My husband thinks it is a good idea to get a pillow for our toddler's crib. He wants a "Toddler pillow" if such a thing exists. When did your children get pillos and what kind did they get?

My son got a pillow when he transitioned to a twin bed at about 21 months. It was fairly flat, but still a normal pillow.
We started with a small travel pillow and a white case when he was a toddler purchased probably at Bed, Bath and Beyond. Eventually he switched to a regular, but very flat, standard size so it wouldn't strain his neck. He was probably about 3 when we started with a pillow.
I got my son a boudoir size pillow (from Garnet Hill) when he was about 18 months. I believe there are toddler pillows - maybe try Pottery Barn Kids.
I'm afraid of putting pillows in the crib. Once they had big kid beds I gave them my one of old pillows that was sufficiently flat, just a little padding so thier tiny little necks aren't strained. Now they have pillow pets. They're good and flat enough. That's what I would think of as a toddler pillow.
My oldest got his when he went into another room, got a pillow, put it on his bed and said "look I made my bed!". The other one followed suit because he has to do everything his brother does. Big one was well into four
Ittle one was well into two.
As for pillows, we always had a pillow in my daughters toddler bed but she never wanted to use it so it just stayed at the foot of her bed (matched her bedset) Then when we switched her over to her dbl bed last week she just started using her pillow(s) but she was always a stomach sleeper and never wanted to use one to sleep. We just used a regular pillow that was flatter than normal
Good Luck
We gave our kids pillow pets when they were in a crib. They also use them in their toddler beds. We are trying to migrate them to regular pillows though because my kids have allergies and you can't put a protective pillow cover over a pillow pet.
The pillow pets have worked out well as both a pillow and comfort item. They started out a little puffy but it doesn't take long for them to flatten out. We picked up some extras so that we could cycle one out if we needed for cleaning or if it started to look a little sad from wear.
I saw a toddler pillow and a small travel pillow at Bed, Bath, and Beyond the other day. We picked up a regular sized pillow that seemed thin at the store, but once I took it home and the kids tried it out, it seemed a little high to me.
Another alternative is to take one of your old pillows that is already kind of flat and try that out.
My kids got pillows when they were big enough for a regular or toddler bed. I know that the toddler bed sets come with standard pillow cases.
My son got a regular, adult pillow shortly after he turned two. My daughter is 18 months, and loved her brother's pillow, so we just gave her one.
