Pinata for 2 Year Old Party

My kids love to have pinatas at their birthday parties, but I'd like to fill mine this time with a little less sugary candy. What cool and inexpensive things have you used to fill your pinatas for parties? Where did you get these lovely treats? The kids at the party will be between 2 and 4 years old. We promise to keep the other kids away from the swinging bat!

What can I do next?

Yes, Dad. 2 year old's can hit a pinata with a bat.. and actually not hit a person with it. It has been done for many generations in my family!

I used to do the little tattoos, stickers, band-aides, little plastic cars.
Boxes of raisins.. but a little nit of candy.. It is a treat after all.

You will need to keep in mind choking hazards.. Some 2 year olds still put stuff in their mouths.

most stores have alot of little toys/ trinkets that you can fill them with in the party isles or walk around the toy dept and look for little toys that can be put it in.

That age pencils ( my 3 yr old is ALWAYS excited when she gets a pencil anywhere lol), jelly bracelets, erasers, if there is going to be boys there you can go to wal-mart and buy packs of knock off match box cars for a couple bucks. glo sticks, bead necklaces, bigger bouncy balls ( so its not a chocking hazard)

2-4 yr olds are so much fun watching them swing at pinatas! They don't even need the blind folds since their hand coordination isn't the best, but they usually have the best laughs while watching them.

When my husband was growing up, they would put small fruits and coins in the pinatas. For the 2-4 yr age group, as mentioned already, make sure you don't get anything too small. For us, we don't blindfold the 2 or maybe 3 yr olds. We let them wack it 3 times and then the next person, then let the birthday child have at it again--unless it really isn't battered, then we let them all go another round. We use a broom stick instead of a bat and the adults stand back. Pencils are a great option, as well as small animals and maybe a couple of cars for the boys--or girls since my dd would love to get them. Oriental Trading Co is a great resource.

Check out Oriental Trading Company online if you have time for shipping. They have TONS of little trinkets for really cheap. Tiny rubber ducks, bouncy balls, rubber monster finger puppets, gummy bracelets... If you are doing a theme you'll find stuff there too. We did a pirate party once and got all sorts of pirate trinkets for the kids. Super fun.

You can get a pinata with pull strings rather than a bat. :) Much safer! I second Oriential Trading for things to put inside.

You could fill the pinata with the things you would normally put in the little goodie bags. I never fill those with candy - in fact I don't give out candy at all. I always give out little treasures. Go to your local Party City or dollar store. There are a ton of little things to fill that pinata - bubbles - little books - tattoos - small boxes of crayons - little containers of playdough - kid sunglasses.

I fill it with candy and toys. You can purchase a bag of plastic army men, or bugs or little rings, or little race cars and stickers and candy. The little kids don't really eat all of the candy anyway so it doesn't matter what type of candy. The parents usually take it and just give them a few pieces. they have toys at Michaels, or Party City in bulk or you can even check a dollar store. P.S. you don't have to blindfold them. If you put it on a rope that can be lifted an adult can lift it up and down for them.
