Small Birthday Party (Disney Cars) for 2 Boys--menu and Easy, Fun Game Ideas Plz

I have two boys, ages 5 and 7. We are having a small party with 2 boy guests plus a two year old toddler girl. There will be 6 adults. Our yard is still not totally functional--mostly rocks but we have a small play pool that kids can splash in and a tetherball. No bouncer or anything since party has so few kids.

But to the menu: hotdogs, hamburgers, veggie tray, cokes, waters, capri juices in ice box and of course, cake and ice cream. So for chips--potato chips or tortilla chips with salsa? Fruit platter or veggie tray?

With just 4 boys, are there any games we could suggest they play? Is a pinata with candy too much for that few kids even though there is a 2 year old little girl that can take a whack. Thanks for your ideas.

Update: Decided to do a Disney Cars theme with "Cars" cake, "cars" pinata, limbo, musical chairs and maybe the water balloons--like 15 each!. Printing out a "little car poster" and putting it on front door. Will stop and get car "napkins and party hats". Thinking about a "treasure hunt" with hot wheels, so need more ideas of good stuff to put in the "treasure hunt". If you have other ideas/suggestions...Thx.

What can I do next?

Here are a few ideas that come to mind.

- A treasure hunt. Just like Easter eggs but hunt for ?? You don't mention a theme but it could be "gold" coins for a pirate party, plastic animals for a safari party, etc.

- My girls loved musical chairs and pin the tail on the donkey. You can modify the donkey to fit your theme

- Limbo

- Cookie decorating. Have tubes of colored frosting and sprinkles ready.

- Pinatas are great. Kids love them. Besides candy, you can fill them with small toys, boxes of crayons (super cheap now with back to school sales), coins, etc. Check out your local dollar store.

As for food, I find kids prefer hotdogs over hamburgers and adults generally choose burgers. For something different, you can make hotdog octopuses. Slice legs into hotdog, leaving one end about an inch uncut. Cook in boiling water. The "legs" curl up and you can sit it on the plate. As for the chips, choose what you like. Same with the veggie vs. fruit.

Have a great party!

My kiddos 1st bday is coming up, so they are way too young for games, but we dont want the kids that are coming to get bored so we are going to host in a local park that has playground equipment, and have water balloons. I think those are more for my husband and the other dads but I bet it will be fun for kids and big kids alike. And I vote for chips & salsa, and a fruit tray.

If it's going to be hot outside - see if your local pool allows parties and have a pool party!! ours let's us rent our facility so it's closed to the public.

Hi Diana,

I was just thinking that bubbles would work, if the boys like to play with bubbles, pencils and erasers, markers, colored pencils. Good luck & have fun!:o)

We always did a pin the tail on the donkey type game but modified it for our theme. We had a Shrek party and printed out a huge poster of shrek and did pin the buger on shrek using some green slime or playdough. You could do a pin the wheel on the car game for a Cars party. Either buy a poster, or print one out yourself and print out some little tires to pin on the game.

My friend had a racecar themed party for her step-son who was I think 5 or 6 at the time. She set up an obsticle course in the backyard using old tires (my husband worked at a motorcycle shop and we borrowed some old used tires), climb up the ladder and go down the slide, go under a limbo type set up, etc.

I think a pinata is always a great party idea, even if there are only a few kids. You get to fill it so you can put as little or as much candy in there that you want. We have also put in pencils, erasers, balls, noise makers, stickers, tattoos, and other toys they have in the party aisle. And since you are having a cars theme, little hot wheels would be a great idea to add to the inside of the pinata.

As for food, it depends on if you want to please the kids or the parents. I think kids would prefer a fruit tray over a veggie tray. And I think kids would also prefer potato chips/doritos instead of chips and salsa. But the parents would probably prefer the chips and salsa. What about doing a bag of each type?

Target has a dollar section at the entrance and they usually have cars items. You can get crayons, coloring books, stickers, or a dollar tooth brush.
