We stayed at The Carrington Bluffs B&B in Austin. Really nice and very cozy...good breakfast....not far from all the action.

Also, if you like nature walks go to Lady Bird Johnson's Wildflower sanctuary.

There's a resort on Lake Travis that is wonderful. My sister actually works there. Look it up......they have rooms by the water and it's close to other things too. Enjoy!!!!!!!!

My husband and I love this small hotel on Lake Travis: www.vintagevillas.com. It is secluded, yet close to everything. The Oasis is a nice place to sip drinks and watch the sunset - food is not that great though. There are TONS of things to do in downtown Austin and there are also many really nice hotels there such as the Driskill and Four Seasons.

My best advice would be to keep on driving another hour till you hit San Antonio! Austin has a few museums and of course the Capitol Building. It has tons of bars and clubs downtown around 6th Street, but keep in mind it is a college town. I really prefer San Antonio for a real get-a-way. It's just about an hour and a half further down I35 and there is so much more to do and see.

This might sound weird, but I just watched Racheal Ray on the food network doing a tasty travel show on Austin. All the information will be at foodnetwork.com. She went to several places with an adult friend and they seemed to stay away from 6th Street but had a great time. Alot of food, obviously, but great recommendations.

I am not sure what your budget is but The Mansion on Judges Hill is lovely! Sometimes if you call they can give you a reduced rate lower than what is on the internet...
