This March is my husband & I's 5th anniversary. I'll be 6 months pregnant then. We want to go on a nice vacation to celebrate, but will likely have to put that off until we are not expecting a new baby ($ -wise) and I can REALLY enjoy myself (non-preggo -wise). In the meatime we want to do SOMETHING. My MIL will keep our son for a long weekend (Fri - Mon), so we need somewhere within I'd say 6 hours max of the DFW metroplex. Don't mind spending the $ for a VERY nice hotel, becuase we won't be budgeting for flying. I'd like somewhere with good weather, nice attractions, good food, etc. that will be enjoyable for a 6 month pregnant me, and not too lame for the hubby.
Really wanted New Orleans, but would have to fly so, I doubt we could get out of there for less than $2k, and we really want to keep this budget around $1k.

We went to Barton Creek Spa in Austin. We had a great time hanging out by the pool and golfing. We went to Oasis restaurant, which over looked the water and we hear has a wonderful sunset, but it rained the day we went so no sunset, just clouds. Food was okay, but you go for the scenery. We also went to some bars downtown and had a good time. There is live music everywhere in Austin if it's something you are interested in, and I don't remember the name, but we stumbled into a great Salsa club. We don't salsa, but it was great to people watch. I haven't been, but aren't there nice casinos in Oklahoma if that's something you are interested in.

My husband and I went to Rough Creek Resort last summer and loved it. The room prices seem expensive, but when you look at what you get for it (great breakfast buffet, a true gourmet dinner and tons of activities), then it really isn't bad at all. They also have a wonderful spa, I got the best massage I've ever had there!

Here is there website: http://www.roughcreek.com/

Have fun with whatever you do!

My vote is also Fredericksburg. The nicest place to stay out there is the Rose Hill Manor...

Not only it is a very nice place to stay, but also the food is top notch and can be matched to fine dining.

Fredericksburg is a wonderful get-away...great food, shopping, Luckenbach, drive the loop in Willow City, it's a really nice, relaxing get- away. It's also close to San Antonio and The Riverwalk (we've done both in a single trip..something to think about too). Jefferson is also great and has similar attractions as Fredericksburg but it's closer...lots of great b&b's, shopping, tons of history, etc. Galveston is great for lounging on the beach, shopping, eating, etc. There are several great places right here in Texas...enjoy!!

My hubs and I stayed at the Lakeway Resort outside Austin. http://www.lakewayresortandspa.com/ It has a great spa, lovely bar, and a fabulous pool area. It's right on the lake, and just a nice get away.

My husband and I went to San Antonio when I was about 6 months pregnant with my first. We stayed at a nice hotel on the riverwalk. We walked and ate dinner along the riverwalk also. We decided to go ahead and go out to Sea World. It was kind of fun to do it without kids (we've since taken our kids there). We got to see all of the shows WE wanted, etc. Whatever, you do, enjoy it!

Go to San Antonio and stay on the Riverwalk. Everything will be at your fingertips and the hotels right on the Riverwalk are fantastic. You might not even have to leave to enjoy yourself!

I also think that San Antonio and the riverwalk would be a great long weekend. My husband and I did this a couple of years ago without the kids and it was a great and super relaxing weekend. The Emily Morgan hotel has different packages like a romance package and a breakfast in bed package. I don't know what kinds of things you like to do but we had nice dinners on the riverwalk, did some "kid stuff" without the kids, and visited some of the beautiful missions.
