Planning for 3Rd

I'm a planner and organizer, and now that I am pregnant with my third, my mind is racing with all the things I need to do before this baby comes.

I thought I would ask any of you mommas with 3 or more kids for any suggestions to make things easier during the first 9 months of baby's life. I am hoping to get my food organized well enough that I will have meals planned out for an extended period of time (I have a full size freezer plus an extra refrigerator with freezer, so lots of storage space). I am also going to save money for a "stress free fund." This fund will be used for things like hiring the neighbor kid to mow the lawn when I just can't bring self to do it (I do it for the exercise). Maybe hiring a lawn company to fertilize (our lawn looks better since we took this over a few years ago), etc. Hell, I may even buy myself a few house cleanings if I see a great Groupon. You get the point.

What other things can I plan on doing to help make things as easy as possible? I homeschool, so I will have my then 3 and 5 year old to deal with --though they love to play by themselves and are both very independent. I don't deal well with lack of sleep, and while my second was a terrific sleeper, there is no promise that the third one will be.

What can I do next?

The extra meals are really nice - even now when we make things like stuffed shells & lasagna we make extra... we usually do a double batch of shells & bag them (15 per bag for us, but we are 2 w/ 4 kids eating - so you could probably put 8-10 per bag) which gives us about 4-5 meals in the freezer. All you have to do is put sause over them and bake 35-40 min @ 350 deg and dinner is done. With the lasagna we usually only get one extra 8x11, but we can eat 2 days on each one... you may be able to get a few more smaller ones if you have the pans for them. I have also froze veggie/beef stew... which wasn't that bad. I would love to know more things I can cook & freeze for easy meals more often - we are not big on frozen store bought meals & don't eat out much... so that means I cook big meals almost every night.

Also, as for meals... my crock-pot became my best friend for a while. I would start dinner after the morning feeding and before everyone else was up. That why when everyone was hussling & bussling and I was getting ready to fall over because of being tired before dinner time I didn't have to do much to get it on the table.

Something else I did - not really prep, but it did help... when I am feeding a baby a bottle & burped them, I have the older ones do their reading. They have 30 min of reading homework everynight (they are to read to someone), so it kinda killed 2 birds with one stone.

I'm not really sure what else to advise... other then, if things need to be let go till tomorrow - let them. Just get the important things done like getting everyone feed, bathed & give them a little love... everything else can wait a day or two if need be.

BTW - Congratz!!

How exciting! One thing you might treat yourself to during the harsh Chicago winters is Peapod. I hated dragging three kids, one of them in a baby carrier, to the grocery store. Having to bundle everyone up just to walk from the car to the store in an icy parking lot was so annoying to me. If you live near a Caputo's, I hear that they deliver groceries too. I live near a Meijer's that has Grocery Express. You can order everything online and pick it up at the store without getting out of your car.

Good luck to you! I hope all goes well with the rest of your pregnancy!
