Hi friends!
My little one and I were in Target the other day and started talking to a little girl about the same age...my daughter was so excited to "talk" to someone her age. It is clear to me that she is ready for some play time with friends her own age but...not sure where to start. Does anyone know of a play group available after 2:30pm any day of the week? I live in the Fair Oaks area.
Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi N.~ I wish I knew of a group, but I don't. Most play groups for that age range happen in the morning before naps, when the kids are bright-eyed and not so spent from their busy baby day. Two suggestions... I know you are working, but many hospitals have a "new mom's group" that meets weekly. You probably couldn't attend that, but try and get in touch with the facilitator, or maybe try and make it to one or two meetings, to see if other mom's with babies would be interested in starting an afternoon/evening playgroup. You can also check meetup.com for playgroups in your area.

Good luck!

I had the same issue. I was a stay at home mom and had no one to play with my kids. I searched online a few days and found a really cool website. It's called meetup.com. There, you can join groups with other moms and kids. We have met really nice people and have been to really cool meetups.

Dear N.,
I hope you can find a playgroup in the Fair Oaks area. If you do - great! But also consider starting one! However that works out, consider applying for a Community Grant from First 5 Sacramento. They know that playgroups and other groups where moms and caregivers get together can be so very important for families and the community as a whole. Check out their website at www.first5sacramento.net The activities must be for kids zero to five years and help parents (or caregivers) connect/network in Sacramento County. The grants can be for up to $5000 for projects up to one-year. The grants have funded playgroups, art and music activities and other great ideas. The application is pretty simple and the staff helps with the process. Good luck - J.

My suggestion is to try to get together with other moms from church or through mutual friends, or maybe take a mommy-and-me type of class. Playdates for babies should be really low-key. Babies don't really play "with" each other until around age 2 or so--they mostly "parallel play", meaning they do their own playing with separate toys, without interacting with each other that much. Still, it's good to get the kids around other kids their same age. And it's fun for the moms, too!
