We had to same problem... don't use the juice.. didn't help. Use the whole prunes in the baby food isle. Mix them into bottles, etc... the kids love them. Take them off iron.
My 6 month old recently started eating solids. He's eating them 2 times a day now. It seems to have made him constipated. I have given him some prune juice with water (about an ounce or so). It has not worked and it's been 2 days now. I was wondering if anyone had any other ideas to relieve constipation?

Apple juice always worked best for my son and you can give him more than one ounce, it won't hurt. I have heard that sitting in a warm bath can really help too. Another idea I have is getting "Earth's Best" rice cereal. I had always heard from friends that constipation was a problem as soon as rice cereal was started, and I experienced the same thing when I started my son on the gerber stuff. I ran across a "whole foods" market (any natural foods store) and started him on the earth's best line of cereals and jarred foods. I never had a problem again! The cereal is made of whole grains, nothing bleached. It actually had the opposite effect on my son. Once he started that, it actually kept him regular! I hope he gets moving soon!!
My daughter is the same age as your son and has similar issues, however, when I addressed them with the doctor...he said that as long as she poops every 3-4 days...not to be too concerned. He also told me to limit rice cereal and bananas to a few times a week while being certain that she eats lots of applesauce, pears...high fiber foods!
Hi M.,
We had a lot of problems w/our son getting constipated a lot b/c he was on Soy & we were using cereal to thicken his formula b/c of reflux. Our pediatrician had us use pear juice instead of prune juice b/c it's less gassy. We used to add about a teaspoon of pear juice to every bottle to keep him regular. You may want to try that a bit.
Hope it helps.

My daughter has had the same problem and I use baby lax, but only alittle bit and it should make him go with no problem, and it softens because after that amount of time it builds up and gets hard. He will screan from the pain. Hope that is of some use. D.
Hi M.,
I always use water with a teaspoon of Kayro syrup. It works wonders. Apple juice helps too.
