Positive Pregnancy Test Just 16 Days After Sex?

My SO and I had been very careful about waiting to TTC (no birth control for past two months however we used the "pull out" method). We had one "oops" incident and 2 weeks later I started having pregnancy symptoms- sore breasts, nausea and mood swings. At 16 days post sex I got a positive pregnancy test. It feels too early for all of this- has this happened to anyone else?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your advice. We are going to the doctor next week and are excited for our surprise! But yes- looking into an IUD for the future.

Pulling out does not work, there is semen in precum. If you have been having sex and pulling out chances are it was not the "opps" 16 days ago that did it. But, that said, some people get symptoms early. I tested a week before my period was due because I already had morning sickness.

Welcome to mamapedia!

How old are you? 18? Sorry - but anyone who knows ANYTHING about sex knows that the "pull out" method does NOT work.

What do you call a person who uses the "pull out method" for birth control?? A PARENT!!

DO you know what it costs to raise a child? Are you prepared for the financial responsibility for this?

No. I've NOT used the pull out method when I didn't want to become pregnant. We used condoms and other forms of birth control. Kinda like you should have. Your "SURPRISE" is not some toy - you know that right? this is a CHILD that you will be responsible for a LONG time....

I had a girlfriend who thought having anal sex was safe. She got pregnant. She was 18 years old. We told her um no. but she didn't believe us. Now she believes us. And yep. She had an abortion.

You're going to be forced to grow up quickly. I feel sorry for your child. I know that sounds mean - but really. You sound too young and too immature to be able to accept the responsibilities of parenthood.

oh my Gosh!! Wild Woman!! I nearly choked on my iced tea!! thank you for that laugh!!!

C., you need a dose of reality here. Mamazita said it better than I could.

There was no "oops" here. You intentionally used a "method" that is NOT birth control. You were trying to get pregnant. You did. Now you need to get your act together. I hope you can afford this baby.

You now know you can get pregnant by "pull out".

In the future, if you do not want to be pregnant, either abstain from sex or use a good birth control method.

Unprotected sex = potential pregnancy.

Now go see your Dr!

Yes it happened to me, when I was a teenager and actually thought "pulling out" would work. I ended up getting an abortion.
I hope you are a dumb teenager like I was and not a grown up woman who actually believes "pulling out" to be a responsible form of birth control.
ETA: ugh, I can't believe you would look at the creation/life of a human being as a surprise, like a treat in a cereal box. that poor child :-(

Do you know that you can get pregnant using the "pull out" method? Tell the OB/GYN that you've been doing this and he or she will explain why you can be pregnant if you really don't know.

Regardless of whether or not you got pregnant before your "oops" moment, you now have a pregnancy to deal with. Good luck.

Wait....you have been careful about not wanting to get pregnant but are doing the "pull out" method?
So...everyone knows that method is a joke and most people get pregnant.
I have a son...almost 14...from that "method"

Yes of course, I had a positive pregnancy test that soon after because we were TTC...it does happen that fast. If this is an unexpected pregnancy then I do feel for you, but you'll figure it out. Once you deliver I do suggest talking with your doctor about more reliable BC methods because as you can see, this one is sort of unreliable! I really liked the Mirena and it's only available after you give birth, so maybe talk to your doctor about that one.

Sounds like you no longer are trying to conceive - you've achieved it.

These newer tests are often super-accurate very early on. So I'd believe the result even if you didn't have the telltale pregnancy symptoms you are exhibiting. Since you weren't using reliable contraception, I assume you were at least half-ready in your mind to get pregnant, and therefore that you are happy about it. Take care of yourself, see your doctor, and I hope your symptoms are minimal going forward. Good luck!

I took a pregnancy test the first day of my missed period which was 14 days from ovulation and I tested positive. They now have early pregnancy detectors which you can take prior to missing your period.

Congratulations on pregnancy.
