Possible Food Poisoning While Pregnant

We went to an outdoor fair on saturday and saturday night I woke up in the middle of the night feeling bloated and eventually vomited. I am not sure if it was food poisoning, I thought that my family ate the same things I did. But I didn't really feel sick, like a flu or anything. I just felt really full. On sunday I didn't feel like eating much but still felt full. Also, my scale says I lost a few lbs, which makes me a little nervous.

My question is, would you call your OBGYN? Or is that over-reacting? I would just feel better knowing everything is ok, hearing a heartbeat again, and I have 2 weeks until my next appointment.

I am almost 15 weeks pregnant, and have some anxiety, so I can never tell if I have reason to be worried, or if it is just my anxiety.

What can I do next?

I was extra sensitive to bacteria in food when I was pg with my daughter. I got 4 different types of food poisoning while pg with her. The only time I got really concerned (until I found out that the people I went to lunch with the day before had the same issue) was when I was vomiting and had acid reflux so bad that my throat bled.

I kept Mylanta (the original) by me at all times. One on my night stand, one at work at my desk, and one in my car.

If you're not vomiting or having diarrea, there's not anything to worry too much about. If you are, you have to worry about dehydration.

I had food poisoning when I was 16 weeks pregnant with my daughter. I ended up in the ER because I got dehydrated (symptoms concentrated urine, dry mouth, rapid heart rate). They gave me something for the nausea and diarrhea and fluids. My daughter was fine--she's now a healthy 14-month-old. Hope you feel better soon.

Call your doctor....better safe than sorry. I had anxiety during my pregnancies also and was calling the doctor all the time. I felt stupid every time I called. But feeling stupid was a small price to pay for the peace of mind I got in return!!!

I'd call just be safe, but in my experience if you get food poisoning you will know it for sure. Food poisoning usually causes you to be VIOLENTLY ill - vomiting and diarrhea. I had food poisoning when I was about 10 weeks pregnant and was on vacation so I couldn't get in to see my OBGYN. I had no problems with the baby, but if you are sick I would be extra careful to not get dehydrated. hope you feel better soon!

i would call. theres probably no reason to call, but i called for everything when i was pregnant. why not? its just a phone call, see what they say. i was a worrier too, and stress isnt good for you or the baby either. sometimes you just need to hear it :) it wont be the last time. on the upside, you should be feeling that baby kick real soon, and that will ease a lot of your anxiety. good luck

I had food poisoning when I was about 5 months pregnant with my son and was violently ill - vomiting and diarrhea. My brother is an OB, so I called him late at night and he said as long as you're still urinating you should be fine. Keep pumping fluids (water, Gatorade, Pedialyte). You can certainly call your doctor, but I would guess he/she will say the same thing my brother did. Stay hydrated! The baby will be fine, as long as there's a little fluids left for him/her. Hope you feel better soon!

Call your OBGYN. I actually had pre-term labor (at 25 weeks) because of a stomach virus. MY OBGYN had me come into her office and she ran a non-stress test (they just put monitors on my belly for a short period of time). They found contractions, so sent me off to the hospital. With meds, they were able to stop the contractions and the little miss was born right on schedule, at 39 weeks.

I would give them a call. I had really bad food poisoning when I was expecting my first and my doctor called out something to make me stop vomiting because I could keep nothing down. Even if they don't want to see you it can be noted that you lost weight and they can keep it in mind on your next visit.
