Possible Pink Eye?

Last week my son started to get a runny nose and then started coughing, which is worse at night. We put the humidifier in his room and put vicks on his chest at night also to help him. Now on Sunday he started getting the yellowish eye buggers, when he wakes up in from naps and the morning, i figured it was all with the cold. Could this possibly be pink eye? His eyes aren't red at all, he just has the boogers. The only time he really notices it is when i clean them with a warm washcloth. So it doesn't really seem to bother him. He doesn't have a fever, although he has woken up two different nights completely soaked and sweating. We have been giving him ibuprofen in the morning and before he goes to bed to help with any aches he may have.

What can I do next?

I didn't catch if it was the 9 month old or the 2 year old with the eye irritation. If it is the younger child and you are still nursing, put some breast milk in it. The milk we produce has antibiotic properties and enzymes (besides 400+ nutrients!) that help break down the eye matter, is soothing and usually clears an eye irritation quite efficiently. Breast milk is also free, good for the environment and readily available.

Both our girls had small and often clogged tear ducts and milk was the only thing that helped. We avoided surgery and soon they grew out of it.

Good luck and enjoy your little ones!

to check for pink eye, gently pull down the bottom eye lid, if the inside skin is bright red it is pink eye, if not is it is just another virus.

It doesn't sound like pink eye to me. Pink eye causes the eyes to get very red/pink, and they also get very crusty with lots of drainage. It sounds like your little guy has a bad cold though. Good luck--I hope he feels better soon!

sounds like your son just has a nasty cold with drainage through the eyes--pink eye has very noticeable red rimming and causes the child to rub at them because the inflammation causes irritation. Sounds like you're doing all you can to keep him comfy while he gets over it!
