I had my second baby four months ago, and my hair is falling out in handfuls. Unfortunately for me, it's not going to stop. I had this problem before I ever had kids, but I am wondering if I can once and for all do something to stop it. Anyone else have this ordeal? (It doesn't seem to be a very common problem.) Anyone tried anything that helps? I began to wonder if it's a thyroid issue after reading the entries on hypothyroidism. My hair was thick and pretty when I was pregnant. Now it's thin and hideous.

What can I do next?

I too shed my hair after both my pregnancies, it started about 4 months after delivery, lost half my hair, had bold spots, then stoped about 3 or 4 months later. It is all hormonal (or was for me). Give it a few months, it should go away once your body has time to adjust. My thyroid was also affected, went to an endocrinologist, who told me it takes 2 full years for hormonal levels to go back to normal on their own. Sure enough, they did. I don't need treatment for my hypothyroidism, a it is now gone. it is hard to be patiente sometimes, but it's reassuring to know it's all sort of normal.
Good Luck!

When I had my second child, a son, I developed a knot at the base of my head that began in the roots. no matter what conditioner I would use, it would always come back. I finally cut my long locks of hair and the problem went away. When a had my third child, also a son, I began thinning hair like a man, in the front. It was terrible and I was very self concious about it. I thought it was the breast feeding. I fed him for 11 months. Finally I had to cut my long hair to a boy short length. My hair did recover but never the way it was before. I tried so many shampoos, treatments and anything that claimed to grow hair exempt Rogaine because I heard you need to use it forever or the hair you do grow falls out. Folicure worked for me, but I still have thin hair, but I have hair now.

Good luck.

C. C,
Hi there,I am a holistic massage therapist and have been affiliated with an unbeleivable herbal company of which I have used their products for 14-15 years and they are pure. They have vitamins for hair growth.......There are lots of things contributing to hair loss but mostly lack of minerals and vitamins. Most vitamins are filled with fillers and there's not much of anything helpful in them and most people just go out and buy their vitamins for themselves and their children at Walgreens or Publix or G.N.C or wherever. My best friend is a hairdresser who works with hairloss and I can introduce you to him as his specialty is working with cancer patients and allopecia........Help is on the way,K.
I can certainly help you.K.

.....DOOON'T WORRY!!! IT HAPPENS TO ALL OF US MOTHERS. My mother used to tell me "when the baby turns 3 or 4 months, your hair will fall"... I didn't believe her until it happened. SO I figured she was right. My children are now 4 and 2 yrs. old. My hair is back to normal. It is no longer falling as much, but I tell you, back then, I used to wash it and a hand full of hair would get caught in my hand!!! soooo scary!!! but the way I personally see it is "out with the old in with the new!" ...allow old to fall and let the new grow nicely and graciously... you'll have it aalll back, don't you worry or spend tons of money on expensive products... it will all grow back again... trust me... love Liz!!!
