Potty Chair or Potty Seat

If you can get away with just a potty seat to use on the regular toilet then do that. There are some kids however who are afraid of the big potty so try the potty seat first and if that doesn't appear to be working, you can always go out and buy a small one.

We did the potty chair. I do know it is important to let kids (and adults) have their feet flat on the floor when trying to pass a bowel mvmt, even our doc said this was important. Unless you buy a support stool for their feet to lay flat on while they are on the big potty, it will be cheaper to go with their own little one. We bought one at Target, the seat comes off and goes on the big potty, it was under $20. I don't remember the name, I think it was their brand, it is blue and green.

We bought the Fisher Price Royal Potty chair, but our daughter thought it was more of a toy that a potty seat. I guess there is such a thing as too many bells and whistles. Luckily, the top portion also fit on the real potty (although it was noisy and tough to do), so we ended up doing that until she decided she did not want to wait for us to attach it and she just used the big potty on her own.

I potty trained both of my children right on the toilet using a potty seat. My reasoning was that I had enough toilets in the house and I didn't want to have to clean another. My kids never feared it (I've heard people say that their kids didn't want to sit on the big toilet!) My children didn't know that they could have had another choice but this one worked out well for us.

I have twins so we had both. Then we got a toilet seat from One Step Ahead that you attach to your toilet like the real one but it has a smaller seat that comes down. It is wonderful:)I figured we will need it for quite awhile so it was worth the $50.Also we had one of those rings that you put on the big toilet but after my son put it on his head I ordered the new toilet seat.They still like their little Dora potty chair though but they like to go at the same time so it's good to have both .

It's really more up to your little one...will they go on the big potty with just a seat? Some won't. Personally, if you can get them to, I think you should go for it (less to clean, you know?) Quite a few of the little potty chairs have a part that lifts off that you can put on the big potty when they are ready so maybe you could go with one of these...i know there is one with elmo on it (we have that one) and another with a little froggy (sorry don't remember the brand...) that both have the top part that detaches so you can put it on the big toliet...also these both convert to a step stool so when they are ready for the big toliet they can use it to step up on (or we use it so he can reach the sink to wash his hands)...good luck on the potty training! (oh also ...if they will only go on a little potty chair, what do you do if you go out??? just something to think about!)

My daughter refused to use a potty chair and at age 4 still uses the seat that sits on the big people toliet. I suggest trying the seat first, its cheaper and gets straight to the point!

I have heard or read that little ones do much better with things that are their own in their own size, I guess there is a much higher success rate. I can see it, if you look at it from their point of view, that big ugly toilet can be kind of intimidating. We have a Boon, we like the way it looks, kind of modern, simple but that's our style. It's worked out so far, he has used it twice!
