How did you get your toddler started on potty training? My two year old has gone on the potty a few times then lost interest. She'll point to her diaper and announce "pee-pee" or "poo-poo" but obviously too late. I'll bring her to the toilet to show her where it goes but not sure how I can encourage her more so?

So What Happened?

I wanted to thank the Mamas that responded to my request! Great advice that I will use to get her started on her way to be diaper free! I took the first step and bought a 3-in-1 potty, it was the most economical being that it can be used as a potty, step stool and topper for the toilet. I'm also creating a cute little poster so she can put stickers on for each success and will buy her favorite snacks for another reward in case the stickers dont work for a particular day ... Now I have to buy her big girl undies and we should be good to go.
The only drawback is that I will be going back to work this week so I may need to hold off due to the "change" in routine, which I think she already senses coming on because this week has been a challenge! Thanks again!

Both my daughters did the same thing. They were both interested in using the toilet, then they lost it. I let it be and they just started going again. Both times however, there were minor changes going on in the home. With the older one, I became pregnant during the begining of her training. So I put it on hold and about a couple of months after I had the baby she saw intrest again. For her is was a little slow. She peed in the toilet, but wanted a diaper just to poop and then back to the underwear. It was a bit frustrating buying diapers just to poop. One day i told her that I was out of diapers and sisters were too small. So she went in the toilet and was so proud.

My youngest, her issue was that it was near the holidays and I had read not to potty train during those days. So I stopped. The holidays past and she got her toddler bed and within a week or two, she was full on potty trained. So check if there are any changes in the home. Even the smallest change can effect them. Then wait 'til things settle in for her. If she is telling, even though it's too late, she is still interested, she knows what is going on. My youngest did not like the traininig toilet. i bought her the small seat that sits on top of your toilet seat, they have fun designs.

Hi
I have two girls also about the same age difference. My older girl, two and a half showed signs of readiness by telling us just like yours. And as Yours, she went on the potty a couple of times and lost interest. We then decided to make an effort and took the diaper off. Every time she went in her pants, we would quickly take her to the bathroom and sit her on the potty to make a connection between the action and the potty itself. She also didn't like being wet, and especially dirty, so this was a motivator for her to go to the potty. When she complained about the wet pants we would explain to her that she had to go to the potty and pee. She would tell us: Pee-pee and then go right then and there, but soon she gained more control and we could hurry to the bathroom. We would also take her to the potty and sit her down several times a day. At first the prize was chocolate, but she would go and sit on the potty with her pants on and demand candy. I decided on a book (You can also use a sheet of paper) where she would put a sticker of choice for every succes. After every new sticker we would count how many she had and be excited about it. She was so proud of all her stickers and would show them off to visitors. At all times we would cheer on the successes too. Summer is around the corner, so dress her light (Less clean up) OH yeah, I bought her some Elmo underwear which she absolutely loved. I would then tell her after she peed, "oh oh, you went pee pee on Elmo!"
She is really good at telling us she has to go now. Does not care for the potty anymore, she wants the big toilet. Only thing that bothers me is that she has to go to the bathroom everywhere we go. She has made both number one and two at Target, the furniture store, the animal farm, Food Maxx... You name it, she has left a present there!
And when she goes, she will sit there and look at everything and talk about whoever is in the next booth. "Lady going pee-pee?"
Good luck with everything. I am sure your daughter will do fine. Be consistant, and hold in there. We don't even use a diaper at night.

Bring her potty into the living room and if you feel like you and she are both ready, then take off the diaper and put on big girl undies... yes, she wil have accidents, but this is the best way. DO NOT BUY PULL UPS!!! They are diapers, kids know they are diapers and so of course will use them as such. You cn alet her go nudie during the day as well(depending on how you feel) .

Everytime she used the potty wheather she pees alot or a little, give her a reward(1 m &m) this worked so great for my kids!!

GOOD LUCK

stick with it she'll get the hang of it and will love having big girl undies.
