I am trying to potty train my daughter (24mo) I am open to any suggestions. My daughter ocassionally tells me she has to go popo but usaully she pees and poops in her pants. Which I really don't like. She was doing potty training her until I had another baby. Now she wants to be changed like a baby.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well, This is going to be a work in progress. I am setting the timer for 30 min. and after that I take my daughter to the bathroom. If she goes to the bathroom I give her a treat like candy (we have a lot from Halloween) she even flushes the toilet on her own now if she poops in it! Hopefully with the constant going to the bathroom every 1/2 hr. she will soon be potty trained.

Every child develops and learns, weather we like it or not on their own terms, but one thing to try if it is possible for you is to along with teaching her at home, put her in a day program for a couple hours a day a few days a week and let her be around other children who are "doing the same thing" (going to potty) and I bet she may want to do it to. With a new baby it is going to be hard to get her not to want to be the baby to but positive reinforcement and persistence will pay off. Good luck!

it took me 6 months to potty train my son when he was 2. i tried everything, a good thing to do, dont get pull ups, they are a glorified diaper and dont really get the job done. kids think they are diapers. anwyays i finally bought jolly ranchers and my son was toilet trained maybe within a month. there are really good books about potty training.

I tried and tried with my son and he did it when he was ready (which he was 3 1/2) so just give her time. I promise she will do it when she is ready. Good luck!

Hi A.,
Well here is what I don't understand first of all potty training does not happen over night. Second 2 is still quit young to have the expectation that she is ready to be potty trained. I think 2 1/2 is more of an appropriate age. And with this comment "Which I really don't like" I don't really think that there is a person that enjoys a poopy diaper. In my opinion you should wait 6 months let the dust settle from her getting a new sibling and then start it.

I do not understand the big hurry about getting kids potty trained. Let them be children because it sure isn't fun and games being an adult.

My daughter also went backwards when I had the new baby. She was almost completely potty trained with the exception of wetting the bed then I had my other daughter and it was a total relapse. I just kept encouraging her and telling her how much mommy liked having my "big girl". I also tried the setting the timer for every 20 minutes which reminded me to make her try. Finally my 8 year old niece came to visit and with her help and chocolate bribery she got there. She is now 2 1/2 and 100% potty trained. Good luck.

I agree that she is too young to start. I would just talk about the potty, let her read books about it but don't push her to do it. Tell her you understand she wants to be baby and don't make a big deal out of it. Maybe try the "reverse psychology " on her. Nicholas is 3 and we have gone back and forth for awhile and I just tell him I know he wants to wear diapers and just this morning he took it off and said he wanted to use the potty today, so we shall see. ( I don't think I believe him)

I don't think shes ready. 2 seems a little young. And with the new baby, her world got a little shaken up. Give her time.
