K.K.
I have that same problem with my daughter. The only thing I can say is wait thats what I do with her.He will get the hang of it soon.Im a stay at home mom too.
So we're working at potty training Cameron (turned 2 this past August). Chris is more adament then I am only because I've heard he'll regress when the baby is born and we shouldn't push then yadda yadda so I don't want to have a huge feat just to be back full time in diapers. So, do any of you have any ideas, tips, suggest any books, anything to help.
We're you of you potty training when you had baby #2? How did that go? Did you back off or keep things as normal as possible?
My vote is keeping things as normal but everything I've read and heard says back off.
Help!
So, we had Caleb in Feb of 07. And moved all the way to IN in April! No potty training there. We moved back home in September, and finall potty trained in Feb of 08! He is 3 1/2. I was calling about preschools for August and I sat him down and explained he can not go to school unless he poops and pees on the potty. I swear we had it within 48 hrs! Thanks for the advice. I am much better informed for Caleb and Kara!

K.,
I have a 3yr old boy and I just had my second son a month ago. When I was trying to potty train Johnathan then it didn't work until I got pregnant with Kaden. All kids are different and so no one thing will work the same with all kids. But with Johnathan I kept going with it taking him to the potty every hour and if he wet between that time then I would slack it off to evey 30 mins until he went. When he finally used the potty then I would go back to every hour and I just kept it like that until he got the hang of it and before I knew it he was potty trained durring the day. Now if you are aking about night to then I can't help you there, Johnathan is still wearing pull-ups at night. I hope this helps out.
When we potty trained my now 2 1/2 old, I found it important to not put my daughter in pull-ups or diapers when she was awake. Only underwear. I know that sounds like a lot of work but it is worth it. They don't like to be wet. And with a diaper on they are still fairly dry. Pull-ups are a glorified diaper. When we went out to the store we brought extra underwear but also used the plastic underwear over the others. We went to the bathroom before and keep on asking while at the store. She was potty trained in a week! It was like magic. We had a many accidents the first day but don't ever get mad at the child. Positive positive positive
Hi K., you are a very young mom. I have a 2 1/2 year old and a 1 year old and we did the same thing as Jenny with the piggy bank. When the new baby came along, we kind of got lazy and back slid a little with the changes. Just be patient and when the baby is ready to go, he will go. It is all about timing. As long as it is done before 3, you are doing very good. Congratulations on the new baby. Let me know if you have any more questions.
K., congrats on your second pregnancy! And happy birthday! I am a mother of three girls, the oldest are now 6 and 4 1/2, neither of them were potty trained until right before their third birthday, my second might have been closer to 2 1/2. my youngest daughter just turned two this month and is deathly afraid of the potty, despite the fancy dora chair and the fact that *they say* that siblings learn faster because they want to be like the older ones. That said, I've also done in home child care and largely contributed to potty training a three year old boy. My experience and from what I've heard from many moms, boys are much harder in general to train than girls. It just doesn't bother them as much to be wet or stinky. I've also learned that you can't push potty training, its true that it will cause a child to push away from it. My advice is to get him a potty, let him approach it and check it out for a few months. My oldest used hers to put toys in for the longest time. They will let you know when they are ready. Every once in a while put them on the potty but don't force them to sit there against there will. Eventually they will show signs like going through the night w/o wetting their diaper, and a willingness to take the step to potty train. Thats when you go for incentives. For my oldest I promised her her first barbie doll if she could go for awhile (days) w/o messing her panties. My second didn't need any incentive.
Hi K.,
My son and a few of my friends sons' didn't even show interest in potty training until after their third birthday. I got my son potty trained two months after his third birthday with the help of school not changing diapers after three. He still has accidents but for the most part going steady. Don't push him and ask you pediatrician they may have a potty training hand out.
Good luck! A. www.busymomsworkathome.com
Hey Katie...
My boys are 2 years 1 month and 1 day apart..Needless to say I had 2 in diapers at once. My oldest basically potty trained himself. We waited till summer less clothes. I let him water the bushes and the trees..We washed daddys truck tires...Sometimes we even went off the porch.. Needless to say he loved pottying outside. We used cherrios in the potty for him to aim at..It was more a game than anything. Just make sure he doesn't fall in the big potty it could hurt progress. When the weather started to changed he was fully potty trained. Good Luck Just remember that every child progress different. My second son didn't potty train till he was 3 1/2..My third son he was 2 1/2.. Don't push. It will happen.
When I got pregnant last year with my 2nd child - my goal was to have my oldest potty trained BEFORE the new baby was born!! Needless to say - it didn't happen that way. Trenton (who is now 3 1/2) was not fully potty trained until right before his 3rd birthday. They say not to push the issue because that only makes them do the opposite!! We tried all the incentives and the only thing that worked was MONEY! He had received a cute little piggy bank that has his name painted on it and he really liked it. So everytime he went pee-pee in the potty, we gave him a penny. Then we told him if he would poo-poo in the potty he could have $1.00!! Eventually, this worked!! But it took a little longer for the poo-poo thing because I think they are scared for some reason. Even now that he is potty trained, he asks for some money when he goes to the bathroom!
The best advice is to be patient, especially with the new baby coming in a few months. Good luck!!
