Potty Training - Phoenix,AZ

My son has been potty trained for aout 8 months now. The 3 year old little girl I watch has shown interest in it off and on for about a year now. She is perfectly capable of going, and knowing when she needs to go, but has been stubborn about fully training. She goes to the potty every 10-15 minutes all day long (part of the reason that she doesn't want to train in my opinion, who wants to stop playing avery 15 minutes to do something as boring as potty). She actually goes a decent amount every time, it isn't just playing. This doean't seem normal to me. She doesn't drink tons of fluids, my son drinks far more than she does, and only goes potty every 1-2 hours or less often. Any other moms have this problem, or maybe a possible reason for this?

What can I do next?

hello, i think you are right. if she is having to go that often she good have kidney or bladder problems. She needs to go see a doctor. I had a bladder problem as a little girl and it was terrible, my parents just thought i was playing or that i was too lazy to potty train but it turned out i had a small hole in my baldder and once it was repaired i did great. i was fully potty trained in two weeks. Just keep encouraging her and tell her mom she needs to be checked out.

Joceyln,

Urinating in copius amounts seems suspicious. I am Diabetic, and that is one of the symptoms. She should have a check up by her doctor for sure.

If she's got a lot of stool, that is a sign she is being over-fed, possibly. I remember Richard Simmons once writing a book that stated that a person who is over-eating will have up to three movements a day and that is not healthy. You have two to three a week, if your diet is correct.

Good luck explaining this to her Mother.

Hugs, Kat

One thing that can cause peeing so often is a urinary tract infection, it can be the only symptom. Also this can be a sign of diabetes. I would suggest that her mom take her to the dr just to get it checked out. She might just want to make sure there is no other reason for the delay in being potty trained.

J.,

Has your friend ever had her tested for Diabetes? Going to the bathroom often is a common symptom of Diabetes according to my Pediatrician. We have Diabetes in our family so my husband was asking the doc about it at his 3 year old well visit. It is definately something that I would look in to. Good luck!
